Chapter 7 - The Arrest of Evelyn Vance

Armed with the forensic audit, ADA Marcus Ruiz brought in the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s financial crimes division.
Evelyn, unaware that the net had closed around her, remained at her gated estate, desperately attempting to secure Richard’s five-million-dollar bail. When the banks refused to release loans against the frozen trust assets, her panic turned into reckless aggression.
That evening, Daniel called me, his voice breathless with alarm.
"Clara! Evelyn just showed up at my apartment building. She brought two private security guards. She’s demanding I sign an affidavit stating the video I gave the police was an AI deepfake, or she’ll sue me into bankruptcy."
"Daniel, stay inside and do not open the door," I instructed urgently. "Amanda is already alerting the police."
Evelyn’s arrogance proved to be her final undoing.
She didn't just threaten Daniel; she attempted to kick his door open while shouting loud enough for the entire apartment floor to hear that she would "ruin him and erase Clara from existence."
By the time two patrol units arrived, Daniel had his door intercom camera recording every single second.
Witness tampering. Extortion. Retaliation against a material witness in a felony child abuse case.
When the officers cuffed Evelyn’s hands behind her back, her designer silk jacket wrinkled and stained against the squad car door. She shrieked, demanding to speak to the mayor, threatening every officer with termination.
Nobody cared.

The media trucks, already tipped off by Amanda, caught every humiliating second on camera. The formidable matriarch of the Vance dynasty was hauled into the precinct under the glare of flashing camera bulbs, her makeup ruined by hysterical tears.
