Chapter 9 - The True Wedding (1,800 words)One year after the day my father raised a hammer against my face.

The sun rose over the Pacific Ocean, casting a brilliant golden light across the private cliffs of Big Sur.
The ceremony was not held in a crowded city church or a corporate country club. It was held on a high grassy bluff overlooking the endless blue sea, surrounded by ancient redwood trees and the wild, clean wind of the California coast.
There were no media cameras, no corporate partners looking for favors, and no toxic family secrets lurking in the shadows.
There were only twenty people present: my cousin Nathan, Madame Varga, Rosa, my closest friends from the factory, and Adrian’s inner circle of loyal supporters.
I stood in the bridal suite of the coastal lodge, looking at my reflection in the full-length mirror.
I wore a brand-new custom gown designed personally by Madame Varga—a breathtaking creation of pure white silk, flowing lace, and delicate pearl embroidery that caught the morning light like diamond dust.
My hair was styled in soft waves, falling naturally over my shoulders.
On my left cheekbone, the faint silvery line of my scar was visible—not as a flaw, but as a striking, beautiful testament to survival, strength, and triumph.
Madame Varga stepped up behind me, gently adjusting the train of the gown, tears of joy shining in her dark eyes.
“You look like a queen, chérie,” Madame Varga whispered, her voice thick with emotion. “Not because of the silk. But because of the heart beneath it.”
“Thank you, Madame Varga,” I smiled, turning to give her a gentle hug. “For everything.”
A soft knock sounded on the door, and Nathan stepped inside, wearing a sleek black tuxedo.
“It’s time, Evie,” Nathan smiled, offering me his arm.
I slid my arm through his, holding my bouquet of fresh white roses—harvested that very morning from the rebuilt garden at the estate—and walked out into the warm sunshine.
The acoustic guitar played a soft, beautiful melody as I walked down the natural wooden aisle toward the cliff edge.
Standing at the end of the aisle, waiting for me under an arch of white roses and sea grass, was Adrian.
He wore a tailored black tuxedo, his dark hair catching the coastal breeze, his grey eyes fixed entirely on me with a fierce, radiant adoration that made my breath catch in my throat.
When Nathan placed my hand in Adrian’s, Adrian squeezed my fingers tightly, leaning down to whisper, “You take my breath away.”
“You’re stuck with me now, Mr. Vale,” I whispered back, my eyes sparkling.
The minister smiled warmly, opening his book.
“Dearly beloved,” the minister began, his voice carrying over the gentle roar of the waves crashing against the rocks below. “We are gathered here today to unite two souls who have walked through the fire, survived the storm, and built a sanctuary of truth, love, and unwavering loyalty.”
The vows were not written by event planners or corporate advisors. They came straight from our hearts.
When it was Adrian’s turn, he looked deep into my eyes, speaking with a steady, resonant power that echoed across the cliffs.
“Evelyn,” Adrian said, his voice thick with emotion. “I loved you when you were a quiet woman working eighteen hours a day to build a company that didn't appreciate you. I loved you when you lay in a hospital bed with a broken face, refusing to surrender your dignity. And I will love you for every single day of my life, protecting your peace, honoring your strength, and building our empire together.”
Tears of pure, unadulterated happiness spilled over my lashes, catching the sunlight.
“Adrian,” I replied, my voice steady and clear. “You showed me that real love doesn't demand sacrifice of one’s identity. You stood beside me as my shield, my partner, and my equal. I give you my heart, my loyalty, and my life, forever.”
“By the authority vested in me,” the minister announced, a wide smile breaking across his face, “I now pronounce you husband and wife. Adrian, you may kiss your bride.”

Adrian stepped forward, wrapped his arms around my waist, and lifted me slightly off my feet as his lips met mine in a deep, passionate, sealing kiss.
The small crowd erupted into thunderous applause and joyous cheers.
