Chapter 1 - THE ACCIDENT AND THE FRAUD (800 Words)The cold oxygen mask pressed against my face as the paramedic squeezed my hand. "Stay with us, Fallon. The trauma team is ready."

Every throb in my right leg was a searing reminder of the twelve marble steps at Cliffside Resort. I closed my eyes, but all I could hear was Sutton’s light, mocking laugh echoing through the grand hall: "Did Bri get that?"

She hadn't just tripped me. She had angled her heel and shoved me with calculated precision. My mother’s desperate warning to "stop embarrassing the bride" burned hotter than the pain radiating from my torn ACL and fractured tibia. Ten years of family sacrifices, ten years of playing the dutiful elder sister who swallowed every insult—and it had ended with me broken at the bottom of a staircase.

Inside the ambulance, my personal phone chimed on the gurney beside me. With trembling, blood-stained fingers, I picked it up.

Unknown: I saw exactly what Sutton did. I have proof. Don't let them convince you it was an accident.

Before I could even process the text, a secondary alert flashed across the top of my screen. It was an urgent push notification from my corporate banking app:

[SECURITY ALERT] Fraud Detection Unit: $48,500.00 transferred via wire from your primary risk assessment reserve account to Apex Luxury Events LLC. Transaction authorized via secondary security token.

My heart dropped into my stomach.

Apex Luxury Events LLC. That was Sutton’s shell company—the tiny, struggling business my parents poured money into to pretend she was an entrepreneur.

I wasn't just lying in an ambulance with a shattered leg; my sister had systematically drained my corporate credit and reserve funds while I was lying helpless on the marble floor. She had stolen the emergency capital I used for high-level aviation risk audits. If the board at my firm found out about an unauthorized $48,500 withdrawal, it wouldn't just ruin my credit—it could end my career and land me in federal prison for embezzlement.

The paramedic noticed my heart rate monitor spiking dangerously. "Ma'am, you need to remain still!"

"My... my phone," I choked out, wiping tears and blood from my cheek. "I need to lock my accounts."

"We’re arriving at Big Sur Memorial," the driver called back.

The doors flung open to the glaring lights of the emergency bay. As doctors rushed my gurney into the trauma room, a second text message from the unknown sender lit up my screen:

Unknown: And Fallon? This wasn't something she decided to do at the last second. Check Sutton's shared iCloud drive under 'Project Clean Slate.' They’ve been planning this for three weeks.

My breath hitched. The person sending these messages wasn't a random bystander. They had deep, intimate access to Sutton’s private files.

As the anesthesiologist placed the mask over my mouth to prepare me for emergency leg surgery, I held my phone tightly in my fist. They thought I was the meek, quiet daughter who would swallow the pain and cover their debts once again.

They thought wrong.
