Chapter 10 - Redemption

An hour later, in the quiet sanctum of the Caldwell library back at the mansion, the family sat in stunned silence.
Elaine was curled on the sofa, sobbing in humiliation and remorse. She had championed Julian for two years, blinded by his family's prestige. Richard sat beside Madison, his arms wrapped tightly around his daughter, kissing the top of her head.
Madison looked up, her eyes landing on Nora, who stood quietly near the doorway, waiting to be dismissed.
Madison stood up, walked across the room, and did something that stunned both of her parents: she threw her arms around Nora and wept.
"You saved my life," Madison sobbed against Nora's shoulder. "Twice. When I was horrible to you... when I treated you like garbage... you still saved me."
Nora patted Madison's back gently. "Everyone deserves a second chance, Madison. Even spoiled billionaires."
A small laugh broke through Madison’s tears.
Richard stood up, his posture tall and resolute. He walked over and handed Nora an embossed cream envelope.
"What is this, Mr. Caldwell?" Nora asked.
"Your nursing school tuition at UT Arlington," Richard said, a genuine smile gracing his weathered face. "Paid in full. All four years, including room, board, and a monthly living stipend. And if you wish, when you graduate, Caldwell Healthcare will have a permanent supervisory position waiting for you."
Elaine looked up, wiping her mascara-stained cheeks, and nodded in quiet, humble agreement. "Thank you, Nora. For saving our family from ourselves."
Nora felt tears prick her eyes. Her grandmother’s dream, her own lifelong ambition—it was finally real. No more sixty-hour workweeks at chicken plants or diner counters. She was going to be a nurse.
"I don't know what to say," Nora whispered, holding the letter close.

"Just say you'll stay through the summer," Madison smiled through her tears. "I still need someone to remind me to take my medicine."
