Chapter 10 - THE DAWN OF A NEW EMPIRE

Six months later, the spring thaw brought vibrant green life back to the sprawling gardens surrounding my estate.

The cherry blossoms along the driveway were in full, breathtaking bloom, their pale pink petals drifting lazily on the morning breeze like confetti celebrating a victory hard-won.

I stood on the front steps, wearing a tailored charcoal pantsuit and sunglasses, watching a fleet of white transport trucks roll through the iron gates. Vane Global Logistics was expanding its operations into the transatlantic market, a multi-billion-dollar initiative that I had personally spearheaded from conception to execution.

My life was no longer cluttered by the expectations of others. There were no family meetings to dread, no toxic mother-in-law lurking in the shadows to judge my clothes, my career, or my independence.

I had built a fortress of my own design—not of stone and iron, but of unshakeable autonomy, fierce self-respect, and absolute control over my own destiny.

My phone chimed in my pocket. I pulled it out, expecting an update from Marcus regarding the European port acquisitions.

Instead, it was an alert from a high-society gossip app—a brief, bitter blind item about a once-prominent real estate family in Manhattan:

“Word on the street is that former high-flyer Adrian Vale and his formidable mother Veronica have officially vacated their Upper East Side townhouse, quietly relocating to a modest two-bedroom rental in Queens after their family trust was restructured by mysterious corporate forces. Looks like some high-rolling bachelorettes aren't quite as easy to bully as they thought!”

I let out a quiet, amused breath, locked the screen, and slipped the phone back into my pocket.

Let them live in Queens. Let them lecture empty rooms about rules and obedience. Their world had shrunk to the size of their bitterness, while mine stretched out endlessly toward the horizon, bright, open, and entirely my own.

I adjusted my lapels, took a deep breath of the sweet spring air, and walked down the steps to meet my team.

The empire was mine. And the morning was just beginning.
