Chapter 7 - The Unmasking

By midnight, the internet had turned into a howling mob.
Brianna’s video had crossed two million views on TikTok, fueled by outrage algorithms that thrive on victim narratives. My LinkedIn profile had been discovered, and hundreds of vitriolic comments were pouring into my company’s public relations inbox: *Fire the abuser Naomi Campbell! How can a violent bully lead your clinical project teams?!*
Marcus sat at my kitchen table, calmly eating a plate of my mother’s homemade chicken soup while his legal team monitored the digital traffic.
“The board of directors at your firm just called my office,” Marcus said between bites. “Your CEO is panicked. They’re considering placing you on administrative leave to protect their stock price.”
“Tell them to wait twelve minutes,” I said without looking up from my monitor.
I had spent the last three hours editing together a timeline that was as clinical, precise, and indisputable as an FDA drug trial dossier.
I didn't add dramatic music. I didn't write an emotional caption. I simply let the time-stamped video and forensic documents speak for themselves.
The video opened with the high-definition security camera footage from the bridal suite hallway at Grand Oak Manor.
The audio—captured clearly by the corridor’s directional microphones—recorded Brianna and Brandon laughing as they walked toward the room.
*“Did you see the old bat’s face when I took the first chunk off?”* Brianna’s voice rang out, clear as day. *“She almost fainted. Brandon, she looked like a mangy dog. She’s definitely not going to steal Eleanor’s spotlight now.”*
*“Good,”* Brandon’s recorded response came through crisp and sharp. *“Eleanor said if Miriam looked like white trash in the photos, she’d give us another twenty grand toward the salon inventory. Just play dumb and tell Naomi it was a styling accident.”*
The video then cut to the interior bridal suite footage: my mother sitting trembling in the chair, Brianna casually smirking, and the moment I removed the hat to reveal the butchered scalp.
Then came the confrontation. It showed me cutting Brianna’s hair—not pinning her down, not assaulting her, but taking the very scissors she had used on my mother and delivering poetic retribution.
Next came the crucial part: Waylon lunging into the room, shoving my fifty-eight-year-old mother violently into the mahogany furniture, and Brianna deliberately, calculatedly looking at the five-gallon bucket of chemical wastewater and kicking it directly across my hand-stitched wedding dress with a triumphant grin.
The screen then faded to black, followed by three high-resolution document scans:
1. The $65,000 wire transfer from my personal savings account to *Veloce Studio LLC*.
2. The $250,000 commercial equipment loan showing Brandon’s forged signature of my name, alongside the IP address trace linking it directly to Brianna’s apartment.
3. And finally, the paternity authorization from St. Jude Women’s Health Clinic, showing Brandon Vance listed as the legal father of Brianna Cole’s fourteen-week fetus—conceived while Brandon was publicly engaged to me.
I ended the video with a single, unadorned title card:
*“Hair grows back, Brianna. But grand larceny, federal loan fraud, and elder abuse carry mandatory prison sentences. See you in court on Monday.”*
I uploaded the video simultaneously to TikTok, Instagram, YouTube, and X (formerly Twitter), tagging Brianna’s salon, the Santa Clara District Attorney’s office, the San Jose City Council, and the national media outlets that had started covering the story.
Then, I hit *Publish*.
For the first ten minutes, there was dead silence.
Then, the counter began to spin.
*250,000 views in twenty minutes.*
The internet’s collective whiplash was instantaneous and violent.
The comments under Brianna’s original video flipped from sympathy to venomous fury:
*— “WAIT A MINUTE. SHE PLANNED TO RUIN AN OLD LADY’S HAIR FOR TWENTY GRAND?!”*
*— “Look at the corridor audio! She literally bragged about mutilating her!”*
*— “She kicked dirty bleach water on a handmade wedding dress?! She’s an absolute monster!”*
*— “THE HUSBAND FORGED A $250K LOAN ON HIS FIANCÉE TO BUY HIS MISTRESS A SALON?! ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!”*
*— “The brother shoved an elderly woman into a table! Lock them all up!”*
By two in the morning, Brianna’s social media accounts had been deleted entirely under the weight of half a million furious comments.
The Google review page for *Veloce Studio* plummeted to a 1.0-star rating with over four thousand reviews detailing her fraud and cruelty.
At 2:45 AM, Marcus’s phone rang. It was the CEO of my biotech firm.
Marcus put it on speaker.
“Naomi?” our CEO, Dr. Arthur Vance-Montgomery (no relation to Brandon’s family), sounded wide awake and deeply apologetic. “I just watched the video you posted. My God. I am so deeply sorry for what you and your mother went through. Forget the administrative leave. Take two weeks of paid executive leave. Our corporate legal counsel is at your disposal if you need additional resources to pursue these fraudsters. You have the full backing of this company.”
“Thank you, Arthur,” I said calmly. “I’ll see you in two weeks with the Q4 trial data.”
I closed my laptop.
Outside, the rain had finally stopped, leaving the night air crisp and clean.
My phone buzzed once on the table. It was a text from an unknown number.
*“Naomi, please. This is Brianna. People are throwing bricks through my salon windows. The police are at my apartment looking for Waylon. Brandon is in jail and won't answer my calls. Please take down the video. I’m pregnant. Think of the baby.”*
I looked at the message for three seconds.
Then, I tapped *Block Number*.
I stood up, walked into the guest bedroom where my mother was sleeping peacefully under a warm quilt, and tucked the blankets around her shoulders.

The battle was far from over, but the walls of their little empire were already crumbling into dust.
