Chapter 6 - Rebuilding the FoundationThree weeks had passed since the afternoon that shattered my old life.

The transition hadn't been easy. Managing a historic luxury estate while recovering from a major surgical procedure and caring for a newborn baby girl was a monumental test of endurance. But surrounded by my father, Delaney, and a newly restructured team of loyal local staff, Seabriar Hall was thriving more than it ever had under Caleb’s mismanaged, debt-laden corporate umbrella.
Mercer Events LLC had dissolved within forty-eight hours of the scandal leaking into Charleston's high-society circles. Faced with overwhelming evidence of financial embezzlement and corporate fraud, Caleb hadn't dared to file a single counter-lawsuit. Instead, he had retreated to a modest rental apartment across town, scrambling to find freelance event work while facing mounting legal debt.
Marianne had fled to Florida, realizing her social standing in South Carolina was irreparably shattered. And Brynna had quietly moved back in with her estranged family in North Carolina, far away from the Lowcountry estates she had tried so desperately to conquer.
Inside the nursery of the main manor house, the afternoon sunlight streamed softly through the sheer white curtains.
My grandfather's walnut cradle—recovered, polished, and restored to its rightful place—sat right beside my rocking chair. Inside it, little Maisie slept peacefully, wrapped in a soft pink blanket, her tiny chest rising and falling in perfect, rhythmic harmony.
I sat in the rocking chair, gently swaying back and forth while holding a cup of warm chamomile tea. The sharp, agonizing pull in my lower abdomen had faded into a dull, manageable ache. My body was healing. My home was secure. My daughter was safe.
There was a soft knock on the open nursery door.
Delaney walked in, holding a sleek silver tablet and a stack of new vendor contracts. "Jules? Sorry to interrupt, but we just finalized the catering contracts for the historic autumn gala next month. Revenue projections are already up thirty percent compared to last year."
I smiled, looking up from the cradle to meet Delaney’s warm, supportive gaze. "That's wonderful, Delaney. Thank you. How are the new venue coordinators settling in?"

"Brilliantly," Delaney replied, walking over to check on Maisie with a soft smile. "Everyone loves the new management structure. Voss Heritage Properties is officially the premier name in Lowcountry events again."
"Good," I murmured, taking a gentle sip of my tea. "Let's keep it that way."
