Chapter 5 - The Counter-Strike BeginsBy 1:30 AM, the private conference suite on the top floor of the St. Jude Medical Annex had been transformed into a tactical command center.

Frank Miller sat at a long glass table surrounded by four high-powered laptops, secure servers, and stacks of legal documents. Two forensic accountants were already hard at work, their fingers flying across keypads as they traced complex webs of corporate wire transfers.
In the adjoining room, guarded by two armed private security officers, Emily was resting in a clean bed beside her son Leo, who was sleeping peacefully under the watchful eye of a top pediatric specialist I had personally retained. My twins were asleep in two portable cribs set up nearby.
I stood at the head of the conference table, sipping black coffee, reviewing the real-time data flashing across Frank's screens.
"You were right about the tea, Arthur," Frank said, sliding a digital lab analysis across the table. "I sent a covert team to your house forty minutes ago while your wife was busy dealing with the local police. They managed to extract a sample from the teapot in your kitchen."
"What did they find?" I asked, leaning over the table.
"High concentrations of Scopolamine blended with low-dose thallium sulfate," Frank revealed, pointing to a chemical breakdown graph. "It's odorless, colorless, and virtually undetectable in standard blood panels unless a tox-screen specifically looks for heavy metal isotopes. Another three weeks of ingestion, Arthur, and you would have suffered irreversible organ failure and severe brain damage."
I stared at the graph, feeling a chill run down my spine. "And Victoria? What is she doing right now?"
Frank pulled up a live audio feed on his laptop. "She called the local precinct, claiming you suffered a severe psychotic break, assaulted her, kidnapped your own children, and fled the house with a dangerous, mentally unstable nanny. She's currently filing for an emergency protective order and full custody."
"And Julian?"
Frank tapped a key, opening a secondary monitor showing cell phone tower triangulation data. "Julian's phone pinged at your residence fifteen minutes after you drove off. He's at your house right now, Arthur, helping Victoria draft the emergency petition."
A dark, icy calm washed over me. "Good. Let them build their paper trail. The higher they build their tower of lies, the harder it will fall."
"What's the plan, boss?" Frank asked, looking up at me. "We have enough for an immediate criminal arrest for attempted murder, domestic abuse, and kidnapping."
"An arrest isn't enough, Frank," I replied, my voice dropping into a dangerous register. "If we arrest them tonight, Julian's legal team will have them out on bail by morning. They'll shred documents, liquidate offshore accounts, and flee to a non-extradition jurisdiction before we can even secure a grand jury indictment."
I pulled up a chart of Cole & Vance Attorneys at Law, pointing to the firm's primary asset structure.
"Tomorrow morning at 9:00 AM is the annual shareholder audit," I explained. "Julian and Victoria are planning to present a forged corporate resolution claiming I am stepping down as managing partner due to 'medical incapacity.' They need that meeting to finalize the transfer of forty million dollars in client trust funds into their offshore holding company."
Frank's eyes lit up as he understood my strategy. "You're going to let them present the forged documents."
"I'm going to let them commit federal corporate fraud on camera, in front of the entire board of directors, the senior partners, and the state bar ethics committee," I declared. "And right when they think they've won everything... we execute the trap."
I turned to the forensic accountants. "I want every offshore account traced, every forged signature analyzed, and a complete financial warrant ready for the federal marshals by 8:00 AM."

"Consider it done, Mr. Cole," the lead accountant replied.
I walked over to the window, looking out into the dark night. Victoria and Julian thought they were playing a game against a dying, confused man. They had no idea that in less than seven hours, their ruthless empire of lies was going to crash down around their ears.
