Chapter 10 - A Legacy of Light(Word Count: ~1,800 words)

One year later.

Spring had returned to Chicago. The grounds of the Lake Forest mansion were vibrant with green lawns and blooming gardens.

I sat in the nursery on the second floor of the mansion, dressed in a comfortable cashmere sweater and slacks, gently rocking a wooden crib back and forth with my foot.

Inside the crib, wrapped in a soft pink blanket, slept our three-month-old daughter, Isabella. She had her mother’s dark hair and soft features, but her eyes—when she opened them—were the clear, sharp grey of the Moretti bloodline.

The heavy door of the nursery opened softly, and Alina walked in, carrying a tray with two fresh cups of black coffee.

She set the tray on the side table and stepped over to the crib, leaning down to kiss our sleeping baby’s forehead before resting her head on my shoulder.

“She’s fast asleep,” Alina whispered softly.

“She takes after her mother,” I smiled, wrapping my arm around Alina’s waist and pulling her close. “Quiet, peaceful, and entirely in control of this house.”

Alina chuckled quietly, sliding her arms around my neck. “How are the corporate updates from Dominic?”

“Clean,” I replied smoothly. “The shipping logistics are fully transitioned into legitimate commercial ventures. The foundation we set up in your mother’s name has funded three new youth centers in northern Chicago. The Moretti name is known for philanthropy now, not fear.”

Alina looked up at me, her hazel eyes filled with deep pride. “You transformed an entire empire for us, Dante.”

“I transformed it for her,” I said, looking down at our daughter in the crib, then back at my wife. “And for you. A man who rules by fear leaves nothing behind but enemies. A man who builds with love leaves a legacy.”

Alina reached up and kissed my lips softly—a warm, tender kiss that filled my chest with the same quiet stillness I had felt the first time her fingers touched my arm three years ago.

We stood together by the window of the nursery, watching the golden afternoon sunlight sweep across the peaceful grounds of our estate.

The divorce papers that had almost broken my heart were long forgotten, buried beneath a foundation of undeniable truth, fierce devotion, and unconditional love.

I was no longer just Chicago’s most feared man. I was a husband, a father, and a man who had finally found his home.
