Chapter 6 - The Arrest of John and Martha(Length: ~1800 words)

Within two hours of discovering the hidden vault in the Beacon Hill brownstone, the full weight of federal and state law enforcement crashed down upon my family.
Detective Miller coordinated with the U.S. Attorney’s Office and the Boston District Attorney to secure immediate, non-bailable arrest warrants for John Harrison, Martha Harrison, and Rebecca Harrison on charges ranging from conspiracy to commit murder, forced administration of abortifacients, aggravated domestic assault, and multi-million-dollar financial fraud.
Daniel, Aunt Helen, and I sat in the grand living room of the brownstone while federal agents escorted my parents and sister out in handcuffs.
Martha walked down the sweeping staircase first. Her hair was slightly disheveled, her expensive designer suit wrinkled, but her eyes still burned with cold, unrepentant arrogance. As she passed me sitting on the sofa, she paused, lifting her chin with aristocratic disdain.
“You always were an ungrateful, clumsy girl, Elizabeth,” Martha spat, her voice dripping with venom. “You ruined everything your father and I built for this family.”
“You didn't build anything, Martha,” I said, standing up to face her for the first time as an equal, my voice steady and ice-cold. “You stole my father’s legacy, you murdered my unborn child, and you tried to kill me. Enjoy your prison cell.”
John Harrison was led out behind her. The arrogant, silver-haired courtroom titan looked old, shrunken, and defeated, his head bowed as federal marshals guided him toward the front door. He didn't even dare look in my direction.
Rebecca came last, sobbing hysterically, wearing her expensive designer maternity dress, screaming for Michael.
“Michael! Make them stop! Tell them it was all Mom’s idea!” Rebecca shrieked, tears streaming down her face.
“Michael can’t help you, Rebecca,” Detective Miller said flatly, pushing her gently toward the open doorway where two police cruisers waited with flashing blue lights. “Your husband is currently in protective custody cooperating with the district attorney’s office.”
As the front door closed behind them, a profound, heavy silence filled the grand room.
Daniel walked over to me, wrapping his arms around my shoulders. “Are you okay?”
“I’m more than okay, Daniel,” I whispered, resting my head against his chest. “It’s over. The monsters are locked away.”
“Not quite yet,” a calm, professional voice spoke from the foyer.
We turned to see Arthur Peton, the legendary senior estate attorney who had managed the Whitmore family affairs for forty years, walking into the living room carrying a cream-colored leather briefcase embossed with a gold crown crest.

“Arthur?” I asked, surprised. “What are you doing here?”
Arthur offered a warm, respectful smile, walking up to me and extending his hand. “Good afternoon, Miss Whitmore. Or should I say... sole Chairwoman and majority owner of Whitmore Global Holdings.”
