Chapter 9 - The Reckoning in High Definition

Marcus’s smile vanished instantly. His producer instincts kicked in, his eyes darting frantically between me and Olivia.
"Cut the cameras," Marcus barked.
"No," I said, raising my voice with commanding authority. "Keep them rolling. This is behind-the-scenes content, isn't it, Marcus? Let’s make sure the audience gets the full story."
"Harper, stop this right now!" Eleanor hissed, lunging forward, her aristocratic facade shattering into raw panic. "You are embarrassing your family! You are ruining your sister's life!"
"No, Mother," I replied, staring her down until she stopped dead in her tracks. "You and Olivia ruined this family the day you decided to turn my identity into collateral for your debts."
Olivia’s face was completely drained of blood. "Harper, you’re lying! She’s lying! Marcus, she’s mentally unstable! She’s jealous because I'm getting married and she’s single! She approved everything over email!"
"Did I?" I pulled a sleek silver remote from my pocket and pressed a button.
Across the great room, the ninety-inch recessed media wall lowered smoothly from the ceiling. The screen flickered to life, displaying a high-resolution projection of the forensic handwriting audit, the bank statements of Aura Events, and the certified affidavit from the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s office invalidating the notary stamp.
A collective gasp rippled through the room.
Mark’s parents stared at the screen in pure horror. The production crew began whispering among themselves, two technicians discreetly backing toward the exit doors.
"As you can see," I announced calmly, "Aura Events is currently under formal investigation by the Santa Barbara District Attorney for felony identity theft, bank fraud, and municipal forgery. The seventy-five-thousand-dollar deposit *Bridal Lux* wired to Aura Events was not used for venue staging. It was used to pay personal debts accumulated by Olivia Vance."
"You bitch!" Olivia screamed, completely losing control. She lunged toward me with her hands clawed, but Mark caught her by the shoulders, shoving her back with a force that sent her stumbling onto the leather sofa.
"Don't you dare touch her!" Mark shouted.
Olivia looked up at Mark, her eyes wild, her chest heaving. "Mark! Baby, she’s trying to break us up! She made all of this up to destroy our wedding!"
Mark looked down at her with a look of pure, unadulterated disgust.
He reached into his breast pocket, pulled out the platinum engagement ring he had given her six months ago, and tossed it onto the glass coffee table between them. It landed with a sharp, echoing *clack*.
"The wedding is off, Olivia," Mark said, his voice flat, dead, and final.
"Mark... no! No, please!" Olivia wailed, dropping to her knees, reaching for his trousers. "I did it for us! I did it so we could have the perfect life! So we could have a house like this!"
"You did it for yourself," Mark replied, stepping backward out of her reach. "You forged my signature on a seventy-five-thousand-dollar liability loan. You stole forty thousand dollars from my personal savings. You’re not a bride, Olivia. You’re a criminal."
Mark turned to his parents. "Mom, Dad. Let's go. Our bags are in the car."
Without looking back, Mark guided his stunned parents toward the front door, leaving Olivia sobbing hysterically on the floor.
Eleanor stood frozen in the center of the room, her hands trembling violently, looking at the television screen displaying her own name as the managing executive of the fraudulent LLC.
"Marcus," I said, turning back to the executive producer, who looked as if he were about to throw up. "If every piece of equipment, every truck, and every member of your crew is not off my property in forty-five minutes, my attorney will file an immediate civil conspiracy lawsuit against *Bridal Lux* and its parent network for commercial trespass and aiding in a felony."
Marcus didn't hesitate for a single second.
"Pack it up!" he yelled to his crew, his voice booming across the house. "Everything down! Trucks loaded in thirty minutes! Let’s move, move, move!"
Within ninety seconds, the room erupted into controlled chaos. Crew members scrambled to tear down lighting rigs, coil cables, and pack camera cases. Nobody looked at Olivia. Nobody offered Eleanor a hand.
I walked over to the front door, pushed it wide open to the cool ocean breeze, and looked back at my mother and sister.

"Your ride is waiting outside," I said. "Get out of my house."
