Chapter 6 - The Trap SpringsSilence descended over the dry dock, save for the rhythmic, ominous churning of the dark ocean water against the concrete seawall.

My father stood completely still. He looked at Eleanor, then at Adrian, and finally at my mother, who was still being held upright by the two thugs.
For a terrifying moment, my heart stopped. Was he actually going to consider it? Was he going to trade everything—our safety, our freedom, years of meticulous planning—just to get my mother back safely?
Then, a faint, cold smile touched my father’s lips.
“Eleanor,” my father said softly, “did you ever wonder why those physical bearer bonds were kept in a safety deposit box at the downtown branch instead of the estate safe?”
Eleanor’s smile faltered for a fraction of a second. “What are you talking about?”
“I’m talking about the fact that three weeks ago, when Adrian first started asking probing questions about the trust’s physical documentation, I had the bank vault inspected,” Dad continued, stepping slightly to the left. “And do you know what we discovered?”
Adrian’s eyes widened in sudden, dawning horror. “No…”
“Oh, yes,” my father nodded. “Every single one of those physical bearer bonds was watermarked with a federal tracking dye by the Secret Service as part of an ongoing investigation into counterfeit asset trafficking originating out of the Cayman Islands.”
Eleanor snapped her head toward her son, her face twisting in fury. “Adrian! What did you do?”
“I didn't know! I swear I didn't know!” Adrian shrieked, backing away from the aluminum briefcase as if it were a bomb about to detonate.
“You didn't know,” my father said, his voice ringing out across the empty lot, “because you’re a third-rate grifter playing in the major leagues. And the moment you opened that safety deposit box and touched those certificates, federal agents recorded every serial number.”
Before Eleanor could scream, the deep, rumbling roar of heavy diesel engines shattered the quiet of the dry docks.
From behind and ahead, six unmarked black SUVs with flashing red and blue lights hidden behind their grilles surged out from behind the shipping containers, blocking every single exit route in a matter of seconds.

Armed federal agents in tactical gear poured out from all sides, their assault rifles raised, screaming orders into the salty air.
“FEDERAL AGENTS! DROP YOUR WEAPONS! DOWN ON THE GROUND NOW!”
