Chapter 10 - Forever in the ShadowsSix months later, the cold Chicago winter had given way to the brilliant, vibrant green of an Illinois summer.

The Ashford estate had changed, too. The heavy, oppressive fortifications that once made it look like a medieval fortress had been softened by new gardens, blooming white hydrangeas, and wide stone pathways that welcomed the sunlight.
Inside the grand ballroom, soft classical music drifted through the high vaulted ceilings.
There were no media crews. No corporate elites. No flashing tabloid cameras.
Just a small, intimate gathering of trusted friends—Marco, Felix, Dr. Aaron Vance, and a dozen loyal men who had bled and fought to protect the family.
Standing beneath a white floral archway at the end of the room, Dominic Ashford waited in a classic black tuxedo, his dark eyes shining with an expression of profound, unbreakable devotion.
The heavy mahogany doors at the end of the aisle slowly swung open.
Elena walked down the aisle on the arm of Dr. Aaron Vance, who had kindly stepped in to give her away. She wore a stunning, elegant ivory lace gown that caught the afternoon light, her smile radiant, every trace of the scars from her past completely gone, replaced by the fierce, beautiful light of a woman who had reclaimed her life.
As she reached the altar, Dominic stepped forward, taking her hands in his warm palms.
“You take my breath away,” Dominic whispered, his voice thick with emotion.
“You’re not so bad yourself, Ashford,” Elena teased softly, her eyes sparkling with happiness.
The minister smiled warmly, beginning the ceremony that would bind their lives together forever.
When the vows were exchanged and the rings slid smoothly onto their fingers, the room erupted into cheers and applause. Marco whistled loudly from the front row, while Felix clapped vigorously on his shoulder.
“You may kiss the bride,” the minister smiled.
Dominic pulled Elena close, his lips meeting hers in a deep, passionate, eternal kiss that sealed the end of their dark past and the beginning of a magnificent future.
As the music swelled and the celebration began around them, Dominic wrapped his arm securely around Elena’s waist, pulling her close against his side as they stepped out onto the terrace to watch the sun set over the Chicago skyline.
“Penny for your thoughts, Mrs. Ashford,” Dominic murmured, kissing the top of her head.
Elena leaned her head against his chest, listening to the steady, strong beat of his heart—the safest place in the entire world.
“I was just thinking,” she smiled into the evening breeze, “that sometimes the darkest nights lead you straight to where you were always meant to be.”
Dominic tightened his embrace, looking down at her with a love that would outlast empires.

“Always and forever, Elena,” he whispered.
And in the shadows of the estate, surrounded by peace and unbreakable devotion, their story was finally complete.
