Chapter 10 - The Legacy of the WheelchairSix months later, the grand ballroom of the Larkmore Grand was once again filled with music, laughter, and light.

There was no wedding tonight. Instead, the hotel was hosting the annual Nursing Scholarship Gala—a charity event fully funded by the Varden Foundation and overseen directly by its newest board member, Thea Tierney.

Tables were filled with doctors, nurses, hospital directors, and working-class students whose tuition had been fully covered by the program. There were no arrogant managers, no stolen tips, and no mistreated staff. Every person in the room was treated with absolute dignity.

In the center of the ballroom, sitting near the front table, was Rowena Varden. She wore a stunning navy dress, her silver hair pinned neatly, her eyes bright and full of life.

Thea walked across the polished parquet floor, wearing a stunning emerald dress, carrying a tray of sparkling cider to toast the evening’s graduates. As she passed the spot near the marble staircase—the exact spot where a wheelchair had once rolled toward disaster—she paused for a fraction of a second, touching her cheek where the scar of an old injustice had long since faded.

Rowena caught her eye across the room and raised her glass in a silent, knowing salute.

Thea smiled back, lifting her own glass high.

She had started her journey carrying twelve champagne flutes across a room full of people who didn't even know she existed. Now, she stood among them as an equal, a leader, and a protector of the vulnerable.

The wheel had turned full circle, and for the first time in its history, the Larkmore Grand was a house built on justice, kindness, and unbreakable strength.
