Chapter 10 - A New DawnOne Year Later.

The spring air in the city was fragrant with blooming cherry blossoms and the sharp, clean scent of fresh rain on pavement.
I stood at the edge of the newly completed Ashford Community Park, located precisely where Trevor’s old corporate headquarters used to loom like a monument to corporate arrogance. Where glass towers and cold concrete once stood, there were now sprawling green lawns, winding walking paths, a sunlit children’s playground, and a modern, fully equipped community health and education center.
Families laughed on the grass. Children chased each other around the bronze fountains. Students sat on wooden benches studying beneath budding maples.
I wore a simple linen blazer and comfortable walking shoes, my hands resting casually in my pockets as I watched a little girl fly a red kite high into the clear blue sky.
Marcus walked up beside me, holding a clipboard with the park’s annual operational budget.
“Visitor turnout has exceeded our projections by forty percent, Elena,” Marcus reported with a pleased grin. “The local community board is already petitioning us to fund a second expansion downtown.”
“Let’s do it,” I said without hesitation. “Submit the proposal to the investment committee by Monday morning.”
“Will do,” Marcus nodded, turning to head back toward the main office. “Oh, and your father wanted me to remind you that your flight to the global economic summit in Geneva leaves tomorrow night.”
“Tell him I’m packed and ready,” I smiled.
As Marcus walked away, I took a deep breath of the fresh spring air, letting the warmth of the afternoon sun wash over my face.

My back no longer ached. The memory of the marble floor, the leather belt, and the cold, mocking laughter of a man who thought he owned my world had faded into the distant background of a life well outgrown. I had survived the fire, dismantled the cage, and claimed a kingdom built on truth rather than deceit.
I turned away from the park, stepping firmly onto the sidewalk, ready to meet whatever tomorrow had waiting.
