Chapter 10 - Dawn over Beacon HillSix months later.

The morning sun broke over Boston, washing the cobblestone streets of Beacon Hill in a warm, golden amber light. The sky was a brilliant, cloudless blue, stretching endlessly across the Charles River.
Inside the Ashford residence, the heavy oak doors were open wide to let in the fresh spring breeze.
Harper stood on the private third-floor balcony, wearing a light cream-colored sundress, sipping a cup of hot chamomile tea. Her skin was clear, her back healed completely, leaving behind only the memory of a nightmare that no longer had any power over her.
From the room behind her came the sound of laughter.
“Come on, Noah, you’re going to miss the bus!” Harper called out with a smile.
Little Noah came running out onto the balcony, his backpack slung over one shoulder, looking healthy, happy, and full of life. He gave Harper a quick hug before sprinting down toward the front foyer, where a black car waited to take him to school.
Footsteps sounded behind her—heavy, confident, and entirely familiar.
Gabriel stepped out onto the balcony, holding two cups of coffee. He handed one to Harper, his fingers brushing against hers, sending a warm spark straight to her heart. He wore a simple dark blue button-down shirt, looking relaxed, free of the perpetual tension that had once defined his world.
Gabriel wrapped his arms around Harper’s waist from behind, resting his chin comfortably on her shoulder as they looked out over the skyline of Boston—a city that finally belonged to both of them.
“Penny for your thoughts, Mrs. Ashford?” Gabriel murmured into her ear, a rare, genuine smile playing on his lips.
Harper turned in his arms, leaning back against his chest, and smiled up into his slate-gray eyes.

“I was just thinking,” Harper whispered, sliding her arms around his neck, “that sometimes the darkest nights lead you to the exact place you were always supposed to be.”
Gabriel pulled her close, capturing her lips in a deep, tender kiss as the morning sun warmed the rooftop of Beacon Hill, sealing a future built on survival, redemption, and a love that nothing could ever break.
