Chapter 10 - The Unbreakable BondThe golden light of the late afternoon sun bathed the south garden in a warm, amber glow.

Rows of freshly tilled soil stretched across the pristine lawn, flanked by blooming tulips and fragrant lilac bushes. Kneeling in the dark, rich earth were Antonio and six-year-old Lucas, their hands caked in dirt, carefully burying tiny tomato seeds beneath a quarter-inch of soil.
“Like this, Daddy?” Lucas asked, pressing a final patch of dirt down with his small palm.
“Perfect, champion,” Antonio smiled, wiping a smudge of mud off the boy’s cheek with the back of his thumb. “In a few weeks, these little seeds are going to grow into strong vines, and by summer, we’ll have the best tomatoes in the entire state of Illinois.”
“And nobody can take them away?” Lucas asked softly, looking up with big, earnest eyes.
Antonio’s smile softened into something deeply protective and profound. He wrapped his arm around his son’s shoulders, pulling him close against his side.
“Nobody,” Antonio said, his voice ringing with absolute, unyielding certainty. “Nobody will ever take anything from this garden, and nobody will ever touch you again. You are safe here. Forever.”
Lucas leaned his head against his father’s shoulder, content and completely at peace.
From the second-floor balcony overlooking the south garden, Vance stood quietly with his hands clasped behind his back, watching the scene unfold below. He remembered the dark, suffocating tension of the dining hall just three months ago—the cruelty, the tyranny, the silent cowards who thought they could dictate terms to the most dangerous man in the underworld.
That world was dead and buried.
In its place stood a fortress built not on fear, intimidation, or domestic abuse, but on fierce, unconditional love and absolute loyalty.
Antonio looked up from the garden beds, catching Vance’s eye on the balcony above, and gave his chief enforcer a subtle, affirming nod. Vance smiled faintly and nodded back.
The syndicate was stronger than ever. The empire was secure.
But as Antonio looked back down at the little boy laughing and patting the wet earth around a tiny seed, the patriarch knew the greatest victory of his life had nothing to do with money, territory, or power.
It had everything to do with the fact that his son was safe, smiling, and free.
