Chapter 4 - The Poisoned NarrativeBy noon, my phone was practically melting from the sheer volume of text messages, calls, and voice notes flooding in from every corner of my extended family.

My mother had wasted no time spinning a tragic story for my aunts, uncles, and cousins. According to her broadcasted group text, I had used "mysterious money" to buy a luxury penthouse, abandoned my recovering sister in her hour of need, and called armed police officers to beat up and arrest my brother-in-law Greg in broad daylight while my innocent niece and nephew cried on the sidewalk.

My Aunt Susan sent a three-paragraph text calling me an "ungrateful, cold-hearted monster who forgot where she came from."

My cousin Todd left a voicemail claiming I was "power-hungry" and demanded I pay Greg’s $1,500 bail fee immediately.

I sat at my kitchen island, sipping chicken broth, watching the notifications pile up on my phone screen. Old Camille would have spent hours writing apologetic explanations, drafting polite emails, and trying to convince everyone that I wasn't a bad person.

Instead, I set up a private folder on my laptop titled: FAMILY FRAUD & HARASSMENT RECORD.

I uploaded the security camera footage provided by Ethan’s team—showing Greg physically shoving a security officer first, Vanessa cursing at staff, and my mother attempting to force open the security gate with a metal ice scraper.

Then my phone chimed with an email notification.

It wasn't from a family member. It was from my former landlord downtown—the owner of the apartment I had subleased to a young medical resident named Dr. Aris Thorne through January.

Subject: Urgent - Property Damage and Unauthorized Entry Attempt.

My stomach dropped. I opened the email.

“Dear Camille,

I am writing to inform you of a serious incident at your downtown rental unit this morning at 10:30 AM. A woman identifying herself as your sister, Vanessa Hayes, arrived with two locksmiths claiming she had lost her keys and needed emergency access to 'her family’s apartment.'

When Dr. Thorne refused to let them enter, the woman caused a severe disturbance, kicking the wooden door frame and damaging the digital lock mechanism.

Building management was forced to intervene. Please be advised that repair costs of $850 will be charged to your security deposit, and legal notice has been served.”

I stared at the screen, my jaw tight. Vanessa hadn't just tried to force her way into my new home—she had gone straight to my subleased apartment to evict my tenant by force.

She was completely out of control.
