Chapter 10 - The Dawn of the Moretti LegacyThe battle for the Moretti estate lasted less than twenty minutes.

Vincent Romano had underestimated two critical factors: the fortified defensive capabilities of the estate, and the sheer, unbridled ferocity of a Don fighting for his wife and child. By the time the local police sirens began to wail in the distance—delayed intentionally by Alessandro’s paid contacts in the precinct—the Romano strike team had been completely neutralized.

Vincent Romano was dragged into the grand foyer by two Moretti enforcers, his clothes torn, his weapons stripped, his face covered in soot and blood. Isabella stood beside him, sobbing hysterically, her designer dress ruined, her pride completely shattered.

Alessandro walked down the grand staircase, his suit jacket gone, his white shirt stained with gunpowder and dust, his dark tattoos visible as his sleeves were rolled up to his elbows. He held his Beretta loosely at his side.

He stopped three feet from Vincent, looking down at the defeated rival Don with cool, absolute disgust.

“You brought war to my doorstep, Vincent,” Alessandro said quietly.

“Finish it then, Moretti!” Vincent spat, coughing up blood onto the ruined marble floor. “Kill me! My lieutenants in Chicago will tear your business down to the ground!”

“They won't,” Alessandro said smoothly, pulling his satellite phone from his pocket. “Because ten minutes ago, your three senior lieutenants in Chicago received proof of your human trafficking records—records provided to me by my mother thirty years ago. They have already voted to remove you from the family. You have no money, no title, and no empire left.”

Vincent’s eyes went wide with ultimate defeat. His knees buckled, and he collapsed onto the floor, realizing that he had lost everything in a single evening.

“Take them away,” Alessandro ordered his men. “Hand them over to the federal authorities. Let them spend the rest of their miserable lives in a maximum-security cell.”

As the enforcers dragged the crying Isabella and the broken Vincent out into the cold night air, the heavy iron front doors were opened wide.

Stepping through the doorway, accompanied by Mr. Bruno, was an elderly woman wearing a dark velvet cape. Her silver hair was pulled back neatly, her face carried the quiet grace of a woman who had survived decades of tragedy, and her dark eyes were filled with tears as she looked up at the grand staircase.

“Alessandro,” she whispered.

Alessandro froze. The gun slipped from his fingers, clattering onto the marble floor.

“Mother…” he choked out, his voice breaking like a young boy’s.

Elena Moretti opened her arms, and for the first time in thirty years, Don Alessandro Moretti ran down the stairs and threw his arms around his mother, weeping openly in the center of his grand hallway.

Minutes later, the heavy oak doors of the wine cellar swung open.

Rosa stepped out into the foyer, holding Lily in her arms. The little girl looked around at the bright lights, the gathered staff, and the legendary grandmother she was meeting for the very first time.

Elena turned, her face lighting up with a radiant, joyous smile as she saw the little girl. She walked over slowly, reaching out her trembling hands.

“She has your eyes, Elena,” Alessandro said softly, placing his arm around Rosa’s waist and pulling her close against his side.

Lily looked at her grandmother, then at her father, and finally pulled the gold button from her pocket, holding it out with a sweet, sleepy smile.

“Pretty,” Lily said softly.

Elena let out a golden, tearful laugh, taking the button and pulling both Rosa and Lily into a warm, fierce embrace.

Six months later, the grounds of the Moretti estate were filled with bright sunshine, blooming white roses, and the joyous sounds of music.

A grand marble patio had been built overlooking the Hudson River, where a hundred guests gathered under white silk canopies.

Alessandro stood at the altar in a custom silk tuxedo, his hair freshly cut, his jaw clean-shaven, looking happier and lighter than anyone had ever seen him. Standing beside him as his maid of honor was his mother, Elena, looking radiant in an emerald gown.

The wedding music began to play, and the crowd stood up.

Walking down the rose-petal-covered aisle was Rosa Mendes. She wore a breath-taking ivory lace gown that caught the afternoon sunlight, her dark hair styled in soft curls around her glowing face. Walking right beside her, holding a tiny basket of pink rose petals and wearing a matching ivory dress with yellow duck embroidery hidden cleverly inside the hem, was three-year-old Lily Moretti.

As Rosa reached the altar, Alessandro stepped down, taking her hands in his, his eyes shining with deep, unconditional love.

“You look breathtaking, my Don,” Rosa teased softly, a brilliant smile lighting up her face.

“I am no longer just a Don, Rosa,” Alessandro whispered, leaning down to press his lips gently against hers as the crowd erupted into thunderous applause. “I am a husband. And a father.”

As they kissed under the clear blue sky, Lily scampered up the steps, wrapping her tiny arms around both of their legs, her bright laugh echoing across the gardens of Hawthorne Ridge—a sound that proved, once and for all, that the darkest shadows of the past had finally been conquered by love.
