Chapter 3 - The Legal TrapOver the next three weeks, my life became a dual-front war. On the outside, I played the obedient, exhausted housewife, enduring Mason’s casual coldness and complaints about the laundry. On the inside, under Victoria Vance's meticulous direction, I executed a silent, devastating financial reconnaissance mission.

Because Mason handled our primary investments while I managed the household accounts, he believed I was financially illiterate. He had no idea that during my years before children, when I worked as a senior financial analyst for a tech startup, I had audited corporate accounts twice his size.
Using my legal access as a joint account holder, and with Victoria securing emergency court subpoenas under seal, we mapped out every corner of Mason’s financial empire.
It wasn't just his salary at Vanguard Capital. Mason had been systematically siphoning marital assets into a secret corporate shell company registered in Delaware under a pseudonym—an offshore-adjacent slush fund designed to hide capital in the event of a divorce. He had stashed nearly $1.4 million dollars away, intending to blindside me with a lowball settlement whenever he decided to trade me in for a younger model.
Furthermore, Victoria discovered that Mason was actively negotiating a lateral move to a competitor firm in Chicago—a promotion that would double his base salary to $600,000, a move he had deliberately kept secret from me so he could file for divorce after securing the bag, leaving me with minimal spousal support based on my current "unemployed stay-at-home mom" status.
"He thinks he's checkmated you, Brianna," Victoria said over a secure encrypted video call one afternoon while the twins were napping. "He thinks you're trapped with a broken arm, dependent on his mercy. But under state law, concealing marital assets during impending separation constitutes severe financial fraud. And his corporate relocation plans? We are going to freeze his professional mobility entirely."
"What do we need to do?" I asked, looking at my reflection in the screen. The dark circles under my eyes were permanent now, but my jaw was set with unyielding granite.
"We wait for the right moment," Victoria smiled, a shark-like glint in her eyes. "He is hosting a major corporate gala this Friday night at the Grand Bellevue Hotel to celebrate his promotion to Senior Managing Director. All the Vanguard executives, venture capitalists, and high-society elites will be there. That is when we strike."

"At the gala?" I asked, my breath catching.
"Public humiliation combined with total asset seizure is the only language men like Mason understand," Victoria said smoothly. "Get your dress ready, Brianna. You're about to make your grand return to society."
