Chapter 10 - Our Little Miracle

One year later.
The private beach on Adrian’s estate in the Hamptons was quiet, save for the rhythmic, soothing crash of Atlantic waves against the white sand.
Three-year-old Nora Mercer ran along the shoreline, her honey-blonde curls flying in the ocean breeze, holding the string of a bright yellow butterfly kite.
“Daddy, run faster! Mommy, look at the butterfly!” Nora squealed, her laughter ringing out across the empty beach like silver bells.
Maya sat on a striped blanket, her feet buried in the warm sand, wearing a simple white sundress. She was glowing, her cheeks kissed by the summer sun. Beside her sat Adrian, wearing linen shorts and a casual navy shirt, holding two glasses of freshly squeezed lemonade.
He watched Nora run toward them, tumbling gracefully onto the blanket into Maya’s lap.
“I caught the wind, Mommy!” Nora declared proudly, planting a sandy kiss on Maya’s cheek.
“You did, my brave girl,” Maya laughed, brushing the sand from Nora’s knees and wrapping her in a warm towel. “You caught the whole sky.”
Adrian sat down beside them, pulling both Maya and Nora into his arms. Nora giggled, squirming between them, perfectly content in the warm embrace of the only two people who mattered in her world.
“Are you happy, Maya?” Adrian asked quietly, looking out over the sparkling ocean.
Maya looked down at the little girl sleeping peacefully in her lap, her hand holding tightly to Adrian’s wrist. She looked at the crescent birthmark behind Nora’s ear, and then at the platinum wedding band gleaming on her own finger.
She had lost her child to the shadows of greed, and through an impossible miracle, her child’s voice had brought them back together. She had gained not only the baby she thought was dead, but a partner whose love was as fierce and unshakable as the ocean tides.

“I’m more than happy, Adrian,” Maya whispered, leaning in to press a tender, passionate kiss to his lips. “I’m finally home.”
Adrian smiled against her lips, his hand resting gently against her back, anchoring their little family in peace, love, and an unbreakable bond that no darkness would ever tear apart again.
