Chapter 5 - The Financial Trap(Length: ~1800 words)

Two weeks later.

The penthouse suite of the Grand Hyatt in downtown Miami was quiet, smelling of expensive cigars and aged scotch.

Sitting behind a massive glass desk overlooking the ocean was Victor Vance—a broad-shouldered man in his late fifties with slicked-back hair, wearing a dark silk suit and a gold signet ring.

Standing across from him was his lead corporate operative, Marcus, looking pale and nervous as he held a tablet displaying financial news.

"What do you mean the accounts are frozen?!" Victor roared, slamming his crystal glass onto the desk, splashing scotch across a pile of documents. "David Vance was supposed to transfer eight million dollars to our Zurich account three days ago!"

"David was arrested, boss!" Marcus stammered, his voice shaking. "The wife... she wasn't sick! It was a setup! She tracked every dosage, recorded every conversation, and handed the State Prosecutor a bulletproof attempted murder case!"

Victor stood up slowly, his face turning dark red with fury. "A setup?! David told me she was a soft, naive heiress with a weak heart!"

"She’s Eleanor Hayes, boss!" Marcus shouted, tapping his tablet screen and turning it toward Victor. "She’s not an heiress! She’s the founder of Hayes Global Architecture! She owns seventy commercial towers across Europe! Her net worth is over two billion dollars!"

Victor stared at the screen, his jaw dropping in absolute horror as he read Eleanor’s corporate profile.

"Two... two billion?" Victor whispered, cold sweat suddenly breaking out on his forehead.

Before Victor could process the shock, the heavy mahogany double doors of his penthouse suite swung open.

Four men in tailored dark suits walked into the room, led by Samuel Vance and two senior agents from the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Financial Crimes Task Force.

Victor immediately reached toward his desk drawer, but Special Agent Miller drew his sidearm, aiming it directly at Victor’s chest.

"Don't even think about it, Vance," Agent Miller commanded smoothly. "Hands where we can see them."

Victor slowly raised his hands, his eyes darting frantically toward Samuel Vance. "Who the hell are you?"

"My name is Samuel Vance," the attorney said, walking up to the glass desk with absolute composure. "I represent Eleanor Hayes."

Samuel laid a thick, certified federal indictment on the desk.

"As of six o'clock this morning," Samuel announced, his voice echoing clearly through the penthouse, "the United States Department of Justice, in coordination with the International Criminal Police Organization, executed forty-two search warrants across your offshore holding companies in the Bahamas, Zurich, and the Cayman Islands."

Victor’s face drained of all color. "You... you can't touch those accounts! They are protected under private trust laws!"

"They were protected," Samuel corrected with a sharp, predatory smile, "until Mrs. Hayes bought thirty percent of the debt notes issued by your parent bank in Geneva yesterday morning. She exercised her rights as a primary institutional creditor to initiate an emergency fraud audit."

Victor stumbled backward into his leather chair, clutching his chest. "She... she bought my bank?!"

"She bought the bank, the holding firm, and the mortgage on this building," Samuel added, leaning over the desk. "Every dollar you stole from wealthy women over the past decade has been seized. Your assets are frozen, your syndicate is dissolved, and federal warrants have been issued for your immediate arrest on charges of racketeering, murder-for-hire, and international wire fraud."

Two FBI agents stepped forward, grabbing Victor’s arms and pulling him from his chair, clicking heavy steel handcuffs onto his wrists.

"Tell Eleanor..." Victor wheezed, his voice cracking with sheer, hopeless defeat as he was dragged toward the door, "tell her she’s a monster..."

Samuel smoothed his suit jacket, looking at Victor with cold, tranquil indifference.

"Mrs. Hayes isn't a monster, Mr. Vance," Samuel said softly. "She’s just an architect. And she just demolished your life."
