Chapter 5 - The Morning RaidAt 8:15 AM the following morning, the crisp autumn air was shattered by the sound of sirens blaring outside Daniel’s luxury apartment complex downtown.

I sat in the passenger seat of Maya’s car, parked across the street, holding a warm cup of coffee as three marked police cruisers and an unmarked federal sedan pulled up to the front glass doors of the building.

News camera trucks were already parked along the curb—alerted by the massive media storm surrounding my speech the night before.

Within five minutes, the glass doors opened.

Two uniformed police officers led Daniel out in handcuffs. He was wearing the same rumpled tuxedo pants from the night before, a wrinkled white shirt with no tie, and his head was bowed in complete, utter shame. Flashbulbs exploded instantly, catching every angle of his humiliation.

Right behind him, two female officers escorted Camille. She was wearing a oversized gray hoodie to hide her face, weeping loudly as reporters shouted questions at her.

"Looks like his practical backup plan didn't work out," Maya remarked coldly beside me.

I watched as the police loaded both of them into the back of a squad car. I felt no surge of triumph, no petty joy—only a profound, clean sense of closure. The toxic chapter of my life was finally ending, and the truth had been set free.

My phone chimed with a text message from Marcus Vance:

“Search warrants executed on Blake & Associates and C&D Holdings accounts. We’ve managed to freeze $380,000 before they could liquidate it. Harbor House will be fully reimbursed by the end of the week.”

I smiled, letting out a long, deep breath I felt like I had been holding for four years.

"Where to now, boss?" Maya asked, turning the car key in the ignition.

I looked down at my hands—clean, steady, and free of any rings.

"To Harbor House," I said warmly. "We have twenty new shelter beds to build."
