Chapter 6 - The Frozen AssetsThe fall of Daniel Blake was swift, total, and merciless.

Within forty-eight hours of his arrest, the managing partners at Blake & Associates issued a public press release formally terminating his partnership and scrubbing his name from the firm's legal letterhead. The State Bar Association suspended his law license indefinitely pending his criminal trial.

Stripped of his income and facing felony charges, Daniel attempted to post his fifty-thousand-dollar bail using our joint marital assets.

However, Marcus Vance had moved faster.

By noon on Wednesday, Marcus had secured an emergency family court order freezing all shared bank accounts, real estate holdings, and investment portfolios associated with our marriage, citing severe financial dissipation and active criminal embezzlement.

Daniel was forced to remain in a county holding cell for four days until his aging mother paid a local bail bondsman to secure his release.

On Thursday afternoon, I sat in the glass conference room of Marcus's office, reviewing the formal divorce petition.

"He's broke, Serena," Marcus explained, sliding a stack of financial declarations across the table. "Between the legal retainer for his criminal defense team, the frozen marital assets, and Camille’s demands for her own independent representation, Daniel is completely underwater."

"What about Camille?" I asked.

"Camille’s father hired a high-end criminal lawyer who immediately turned on Daniel," Marcus revealed with a dry smile. "Her defense strategy is to claim Daniel used his legal authority to manipulate her into opening the C&D Holdings account. They are tearing each other apart before the preliminary hearing even starts."

A quiet knock sounded on the conference room door. Marcus’s receptionist stepped inside, looking slightly uncomfortable.

"Mrs. Blake," the receptionist said softly. "Your... husband is downstairs in the lobby. He says he won't leave until he speaks with you for five minutes."

Marcus immediately stood up, his jaw tightening. "I'll have security escort him off the premises."

"No, Marcus," I said, standing up and smoothing the lapels of my crisp white blazer. "I'll talk to him. In the lobby, right in front of the security cameras."
