Chapter 10 - The Sovereign QueenOne year later.

The grand ballroom of the Plaza Hotel in New York City was glittering with crystal chandeliers, champagne towers, and the elite figures of global philanthropy and high finance.
Tonight was the inaugural gala for the Vance Foundation’s new national initiative supporting survivors of domestic violence—an organization I had built from the ground up, turning the remnants of Daniel’s stolen empire into a sanctuary for women who needed a voice.
I stood at the podium on the elevated main stage, wearing a breathtaking, backless midnight-blue silk gown that caught the ballroom lights with every movement. My hair was styled in sleek, elegant waves, and my posture was commanding, graceful, and utterly sovereign.
Over five hundred people sat in absolute silence, hanging onto every word as I delivered the keynote address.
“For a long time, I believed that surviving abuse meant hiding your scars, lowering your voice, and hoping the storm would pass,” I spoke into the microphone, my voice carrying clear, resonant power across the massive room. “But true survival isn't about endurance. It’s about realization. It’s about realizing that no matter how loud the thunder gets, no matter how heavy the chains are forged, the person holding the key has always been you.”
Applause erupted across the ballroom—thunderous, standing ovation applause that shook the crystal chandeliers overhead.
From the front row, my father sat watching me, a proud, quiet tear glistening in the corner of his eye as he clapped alongside the crowd.
I smiled down at him, then scanned the sea of brilliant, powerful faces looking up at me.

The twentieth strike never landed. And the empire that tried to break me had only served to build my throne.
