Chapter 10 - The Last SunsetThe golden hour over Manhattan was a masterpiece of bruised violet, fiery orange, and liquid gold.

The sprawling living room of the 62nd-floor penthouse was filled with the soft, melodic laughter of friends, colleagues, and family. It wasn't a lavish, superficial high-society gala filled with strangers and backstabbing elites like the one nine months ago. This was an intimate gathering of people who mattered—people built on trust, resilience, and genuine affection.

In the corner near the baby grand piano, little three-year-old Zoey was dancing in a bright pink dress, her infectious giggles echoing off the marble walls as Nathaniel knelt down to hand her a slice of strawberry cake. Watching them from across the room, Amara felt a profound, overwhelming wave of peace wash over her soul.

The scars of the past year—the suspicion, the humiliation, the cold terror of losing everything—had faded into the background, replaced by the unshakeable foundation of a life built with her own two hands and absolute integrity.

The front door opened softly, and Marcus Vance walked in, holding a bottle of vintage champagne.

"Well, folks," Marcus announced, raising his glass as the room quieted down with warm smiles. "I just received word from the federal prosecutor's office. Vanessa Vance's legal team has officially entered a plea agreement. Twenty years, no parole for ten, and every single cent of stolen corporate assets is being repatriated back to Cole Logistics."

A cheer went up around the room. Glasses clinked together in a joyous chorus.

Nathaniel walked over to where Amara stood by the expansive glass windows, slipping his arm naturally around her waist. He handed her a crystal flute of sparkling cider, his dark eyes shining with deep, unreserved affection.

"To justice," Nathaniel toasted softly, looking directly into her eyes. "And to the woman who saved my empire, my sanity, and my heart."

Amara smiled, her heart fluttering with a warmth she hadn't allowed herself to feel in years. She touched her glass against his.

"To truth, Nathaniel," she replied, her voice steady and clear. "And to never letting anyone make us feel small again."

They stepped out onto the private terrace as the sun dipped completely below the jagged horizon, painting the sky in breathtaking strokes of lavender and twilight. The city lights flickered on one by one below them, transforming Manhattan into a glittering ocean of infinite possibility.

The maid who had been thrown to the wolves was now standing at the very top of the world—not as a servant, not as a victim, but as a partner, an equal, and the true master of her own destiny. And as Nathaniel pulled her closer against the evening breeze, Amara knew with absolute certainty that no matter what storms lay ahead, she was finally home.
