Chapter 6 - The Emergency Board MeetingInside the 62nd-floor penthouse, Nathaniel Cole sat in his private study, rubbing his temples in deep agitation. The confrontation with Amara still echoed in his mind. Despite his anger, a nagging voice in the back of his head whispered that something didn't add up. Amara had never lied to him. In two years, she had been the most honest, level-headed person in his employ.

The heavy oak door swung open, and Vanessa walked in, looking pristine and radiant in a cream-colored silk dress, as if nothing had happened that morning.
"Darling," Vanessa cooed, walking over and placing a soft hand on his shoulder. "Are you still thinking about that dreadful girl? Let it go. We have a busy afternoon ahead. My father invited us to lunch at the Plaza to finalize the wedding venue contracts."
Nathaniel looked up at her, frowning slightly. "It just felt... abrupt, Vanessa. Throwing her out like that without reviewing the cameras first."
"She attacked me, Nathaniel!" Vanessa protested, letting out a delicate gasp of disbelief. "If you're going to defend a servant over your future wife, then maybe we need to rethink this entire engagement."
Before Nathaniel could respond, the study door burst open without a knock.
Standing in the doorway wasn't an estate manager or a butler. It was Marcus Vance, accompanied by two stern-looking private investigators in dark suits—and trailing right behind them, holding her head high with quiet, unshakeable dignity, was Amara Johnson.
Nathaniel surged to his feet, his chair scraping loudly against the hardwood floor. "What the hell is the meaning of this? Marcus? What are you doing here, and why is she back in my home?!"
Marcus Vance stepped forward, holding a thick manila folder under his arm. His expression was grim, devoid of any social pleasantry.
"Sit down, Nathaniel," Marcus said, his voice cutting through the room like a razor. "You're about to find out that your entire life for the past eight months has been an elaborate, calculated lie."
Vanessa’s face drained of all color in an instant. The polished, untouchable socialite vanished, replaced by a cornered animal staring at a trap snapping shut.
"Get them out of here, Nathaniel!" Vanessa shrieked, her voice pitching upward in sheer panic. "They're trespassing! Call building security right now!"
"Shut up, Vanessa," Marcus snapped coldly. He opened the manila folder and dropped a thick stack of papers directly onto Nathaniel’s immaculate mahogany desk.
Nathaniel looked down. His eyes scanned the first page, and the blood drained completely from his face.
It was a certified copy of a wire transfer receipt for four million dollars, routed from Vance Capital directly into a Cayman Islands account held in the name of Vanessa Vance. Beside it lay high-resolution photographs of Vanessa meeting secretly with Richard Vance in a secluded downtown parking garage, alongside complete, stolen digital blueprints of Nathaniel’s upcoming global shipping expansion.

Nathaniel slowly raised his head. His eyes, dark and terrifyingly blank, shifted from the documents on his desk to the trembling woman standing across the room.
"Vanessa," Nathaniel whispered, his voice dangerously quiet. "What is this?"
