Chapter 9 - The Legacy of LoveSix months later.

The Romano estate was adorned not with cold, rigid corporate decorations, but with thousands of warm, twinkling fairy lights, fragrant garlands of cedar and pine, and bright red velvet bows.

It was Christmas Eve. Exactly one year since the night Dominic had walked into the mansion and found Emily sleeping beside his father’s wheelchair.

Inside the grand ballroom, music echoed softly. But there were no corporate bankers, no crooked politicians, and no high-society parasites present.

The room was filled with real family: Antonio, looking vibrant in a dark velvet jacket; young Toby, who was now walking with the assistance of lightweight crutches, showing off his progress to the delighted staff; Marco and the trusted security team; and the healthcare staff who had helped Antonio recover.

And at the center of the room stood Mr. and Mrs. Dominic Romano.

Emily looked ethereal in an off-the-shoulder ivory lace gown, her auburn hair styled in an elegant updo, the sapphire ring sparkling on her left hand beside a sleek platinum wedding band.

Dominic stood behind her, his arms wrapped securely around her waist, his chin resting against her shoulder as they watched Toby play with a new golden retriever puppy Antonio had gifted him for Christmas.

Antonio rolled his wheelchair over to them, holding two glasses of sparkling cider.

“A toast,” the old man called out, his voice strong and clear, catching the attention of everyone in the room.

The room fell into a warm, joyful silence.

Antonio raised his glass, looking at his son and new daughter-in-law with eyes full of tears and gratitude.

“One year ago,” Antonio began, his voice trembling with emotion, “I thought my life was ending. I was sick, I was terrified, and I was surrounded by people who saw me as nothing more than an obstacle to an inheritance.”

He looked directly at Emily, his face softening into profound tenderness.

“Then came a girl with a faded blue blanket and a heart of gold. She sat beside me in the dark. She held my hand when I couldn't breathe. She didn't care about money or titles—she just cared that an old man wasn't scared.”

Antonio looked at Dominic. “And my son... he had the wisdom to recognize a true angel when he saw one.”

Antonio raised his glass high. “To Emily, who saved my life. To Dominic, who protected her. And to our family—may this home always be filled with light, love, and endless peace. Salute!”

“Salute!” the entire room cheered in unison, clinking their glasses together.

Emily turned around in Dominic’s arms, placing her hands on his chest, looking up into his eyes.

“Happy anniversary of the night we met, Mr. Romano,” she teased softly.

Dominic smiled, leaning down to press his forehead against hers. “Happy anniversary, my love.”

He reached into his waistcoat pocket one last time. He pulled out the small blue notebook—now completely filled with entries from the past year.

He opened it to the very final page and handed her a silver pen.

“Write the final entry, Mrs. Romano,” Dominic whispered against her lips.

Emily smiled, her eyes shining with tears of absolute happiness. She took the pen and wrote in her neat, elegant script:

Night 365 — No more fear. No more cold floors. Home at last, in the arms of the man I love.

She closed the notebook and set it gently on the mantelpiece beside the warm, crackling fireplace.

Dominic wrapped his arms tight around her, pulling her close into a warm, passionate kiss under the soft glow of the Christmas lights, while outside, the gentle winter snow fell softly over a family finally at peace.
