Chapter 10 - THE GARDEN OF BEGINNINGS

The cherry blossoms on Orchard Street were falling like pale pink snow, drifting across the hood of the black car as it pulled softly to the curb.
Sofia turned off the engine, resting her hands on the steering wheel, and looked out at the bustling Queens sidewalk where neighbors were laughing, children were playing tag, and life moved at a normal, human pace.
Damian sat in the passenger seat, watching her with a quiet, steady warmth that needed no words.
"You saved my family," Sofia said softly, breaking the gentle silence inside the car.
"You saved mine first," Damian replied, reaching across the console to cover her hand with his own. His fingers were warm, calloused, and utterly grounding.
Sofia turned her palm upward, interlocking her fingers with his.
"What happens now, Damian Volkov?" she asked, a playful challenge in her dark eyes. "Are you going to offer me another contract with thirty pages of clauses?"
Damian smiled—a real, open smile that completely transformed his severe, dangerous face into something breathtaking.
"No contracts," he said, lifting her hand to press a soft, deliberate kiss against her knuckles. "Just an open-ended offer. To stay. To build something that isn't built on fear or secrets, but on truth."
Sofia leaned over the center console, resting her forehead gently against his shoulder, breathing in the scent of rain, sandalwood, and home.

"I think," she whispered, smiling against the fabric of his shirt, "that's an offer I can't refuse."
Outside, the spring breeze carried the scent of blooming flowers and new beginnings down the street, sweeping away the ghosts of the past, and leaving behind a future where neither of them would ever have to walk alone again.
