Chapter 2 - The Shattered GlassThe ring of silk and tulle whispered against the marble floor as Vanessa advanced down the aisle. Her eyes were fixed on Richard, filled with a delicate, tearful reverence that made every man in the room envy the sixty-two-year-old billionaire. But as she drew closer to the altar, her gaze flicked briefly toward Emily—a flicker so fast and cold it was almost invisible.

Emily didn't shrink back. The tiny girl stood her ground, her small hands balled into white-knuckled fists.
When Vanessa reached the altar, Richard took her hands. Her skin was warm, smooth, and trembling softly. "You look divine," Richard whispered, his voice thick with emotion.
"I’m only complete because of you, Richard," Vanessa murmured back, loud enough for the front row to hear. Soft sighs echoed among the distinguished guests.
The magistrate stepped forward, opening his leather-bound ledger. "Ladies and gentlemen, we are gathered here today to unite Richard Vance and Vanessa Miller in holy matrimony..."
The ceremony proceeded with seamless elegance. Words of commitment, honor, and eternal love filled the air. But just as the magistrate reached the final vow—"If anyone here knows any reason why these two should not be joined..."—a high-pitched, trembling voice shattered the silence.
"She’s a liar!"
A collective gasp rippled through the ballroom. Guests turned in their seats, murmuring in shock.
Richard’s face flushed a dark, angry crimson. "Emily! Silence!"
Emily stepped right up to the altar, tears streaming down her freckled face. "Daddy, please! She’s wearing a cushion! I saw her strap it on in the bathroom! There is no baby!"
Vanessa recoiled, bursting into quiet, heartbreaking sobs. She covered her face, her rounded belly shaking with her fake grief. "Richard... how could she say such cruel things to me? I’m carrying your child!"
"That’s enough!" Richard roared, his patience entirely snapped by the public embarrassment.
Before reason could stop him, Richard lunged forward and slapped Emily sharply across the face.
The slap cracked through the vast ballroom like a gunshot.
Silence descended—absolute, heavy, and terrifying.
Emily stumbled back, clutching her reddened cheek. Her big brown eyes stared up at her hero, her protector, in total, utter betrayal. She didn't scream. She didn't throw a tantrum. She just trembled, tears pooling endlessly over her small fingers.
"Emily..." Richard stammered instantly, horror washing over him as he stared at his own palm. "I... I didn't mean..."

"You hurt me for a lie," Emily whispered, her voice barely audible, yet cutting through the silent room like a razor.
Her eyes fell upon a nearby floral arrangement table where a small sewing kit rested beside loose ribbon. Without a word, Emily reached out, snatched a long steel pin, and turned directly toward Vanessa.
