Chapter 4 - The Stranger in the ShadowsRichard followed her terrified gaze to the far rear corner of the grand hall, near a towering marble column.

Standing quietly in the dim lighting was a young man in his late twenties. He wore a sharp, custom charcoal suit and a fedora tilted slightly forward. While the entire room was in chaos—guests shouting, security rushing in, cameras flashing—this stranger stood completely calm.
And he was smiling.
It wasn't a smile of amusement or surprise. It was the slow, chilling grin of a master grandmaster watching the final piece fall into place on a chessboard.
When Vanessa met his eyes, she dropped to her knees, clutching her ruined gown, whimpering in terror—not from the shame of being exposed, but from the mere presence of this stranger.
"Who are you?!" Richard bellowed, standing up heavily, his voice echoed with authority and rage. "Security! Arrest that woman for fraud, and grab that man!"
The stranger didn't run. He casually tipped his fedora, stepped out from the shadows, and walked down the central aisle toward the altar. The crowd parted around him, sense of danger radiating from his smooth, confident gait.
"There's no need for security, Mr. Vance," the stranger said softly. His voice was smooth as velvet, carrying an undeniable British cadence. "And please, don't blame poor Vanessa too harsh. She was only playing the part she was paid to play."
Vanessa buried her face in her hands. "Please... Marcus... don't... you promised..."
"I promised you'd get paid if you succeeded, my dear," Marcus replied smoothly, standing just a few feet from Richard. "You failed. A six-year-old outsmarted you."
Richard stepped between Marcus and Emily, his body acting on instinct to protect his child. "Who paid her? What is this? A blackmail scheme? Money? Speak!"
Marcus chuckled, a cold sound that sent shivers down the spines of everyone listening. He pulled an old, worn silver pocket watch from his vest—a watch Richard recognized instantly.

It had belonged to his father. It was supposed to be locked inside his personal vault at Vance Enterprises.
"This isn't about your money, Richard," Marcus whispered, leaning in slightly. "This is about an debt from twenty-five years ago. A debt written in blood."
