Chapter 7 - The Trap Is SetThe next thirty-six hours were a whirlwind of meticulous preparation.

While Trevor was busy trying to pull strings with his corrupt uncle, my father's legal team was operating three steps ahead of him. State prosecutors, handed the unedited high-definition footage of the assault, quietly issued a sealed indictment for felony domestic battery, assault on a pregnant woman, and child endangerment.

Instead of serving the warrant immediately, the District Attorney agreed to execute it at a time and place of our choosing—under full media presence.

I spent the day at my father's private estate, resting with Emma. My physical injuries were still severe; my lip was heavily stitched, and dark purple bruises stretched across my cheekbone and neck. But internally, something fundamental had shifted. The broken, frightened woman who had cowered on the hardwood floor was gone.

That evening, I sat in front of a vanity mirror as my father's personal stylist gently applied light makeup—not to hide my bruises, but to make sure they were clearly visible beneath a dignified, polished look. I put on a stunning, elegant black silk maternity gown.

"Are you sure you want to be there, Rebecca?" my father asked softly, standing behind me in the mirror, looking sharp in a black tuxedo. "You don't have to face him in public."

"I have to, Dad," I replied, turning to look at him. "He spent years making me hide in the dark. I need him to see me standing in the light when his world collapses."

At 8:00 PM, a fleet of black sedans pulled up to the grand entrance of the Starlight Ballroom, where the Oakridge Capital Gala was in full swing.

Inside, hundreds of prominent business executives, politicians, and socialites walked under crystal chandeliers, sipping champagne.

Trevor was in his element. Dressed in a tailored tuxedo, he held a glass of scotch, laughing with senior partners and boasting about his upcoming promotion. He assumed his blackmail attempt had worked because my father hadn't called him all day. He thought he had won.

Suddenly, the heavy double doors of the ballroom swung open.

The chatter in the room gradually died down as people turned to look at the new arrivals.

My father walked in first, his presence commanding absolute authority. And right beside him, walking with her head held high, was me—wearing my black gown, my pregnant belly proud, and my battered, bruised face completely uncovered for the entire city elite to see.
