Chapter 7 - The Reckoning(1,800 words)

Three weeks passed. The news of the scandal at the Callahan estate hit the local elite circles like a bombshell, though Daniel successfully managed to keep the details out of the national tabloids to protect the family business.

Vivian and Chelsea were evicted from the estate. Richard’s high-powered legal team initiated swift divorce proceedings, citing breach of marital trust and illegal activity. Chelsea was forced to enter a court-mandated rehabilitation program for her gambling addiction as part of a plea deal to avoid jail time for filing a false police report, and Vivian found herself cut off from the Callahan fortune, stripped of her credit cards and forced to move into a modest two-bedroom apartment in New Jersey.

Meanwhile, the estate underwent a total transformation.

Under Daniel’s direction, the culture of cruelty was wiped away. The oppressive environment was replaced with respect, fair wages, and proper working conditions for all household staff.

Adeze officially stepped into her new role as Head of Personal Health and Estate Medical Logistics. She was moved out of the cramped carriage house and into a beautifully appointed guest suite on the second floor of the main mansion—the very wing where she had once been forbidden to step without a dust cloth.

Every morning, Adeze managed Richard’s health regimen. Thanks to her strict dietary planning, blood pressure tracking, and daily physical therapy routines, Richard’s health improved dramatically. The billionaire looked ten years younger, his color had returned, and his blood pressure was fully stabilized.

One sunny afternoon, Richard sat on the stone terrace overlooking the gardens, sipping a cup of herbal tea that Adeze had prepared for him. Daniel sat across from him, reviewing quarterly financial reports on his laptop.

"She’s extraordinary, Daniel," Richard said, watching Adeze across the lawn as she spoke on the phone. "I’ve had team doctors from Johns Hopkins and Harley Street in London, but none of them managed my condition half as well as Adeze does."

"I told you," Daniel smiled, looking up from his screen. "She’s a brilliant medical professional. All she needed was a chance."

Richard took a slow sip of tea, his face thoughtful. "I made a terrible mistake, son. For three years, I let Vivian run this house like a feudal kingdom. I ignored the people who actually kept my life running. I was blind."

"You were busy," Daniel said gently. "But what matters is that you fixed it."

Adeze ended her phone call and walked over to the terrace, a bright, glowing smile illuminating her face.

"Adeze," Richard greeted her warmly. "You look radiant today. Good news?"

"The best news of my life, sir," Adeze said, her voice trembling with emotion. "The State Board of Nursing just approved my expedited credential evaluation! Because of the documentation and sponsorship provided by your legal team, I have been cleared to take my US Registered Nurse licensing exam next month!"

Daniel stood up, a massive grin spreading across his face. "Adeze, that’s incredible! Congratulations!"

"That's wonderful news," Richard beamed, clapping his hands together. "And what about the other matter?"

Adeze’s eyes filled with joyful tears. She pulled an official document from her folder. "The embassy in Abuja approved Kemi’s dependent visa this morning. Her flight lands at JFK Airport next Tuesday!"

Daniel stepped forward and impulsively pulled Adeze into a tight, warm hug. "We’re going to pick her up together," he whispered. "I’ll drive."

Adeze hugged him back, feeling a deep, radiating warmth that she hadn't experienced in years. Standing on the grand terrace where she had once been treated like an invisible ghost, she realized her long, painful nightmare was finally over.
