Chapter 3 - The Boardroom CoupBy 9:00 AM Monday morning, the corporate headquarters of Vance Innovations was a battleground. News of the wedding night scandal had wiped fifteen percent off the company's valuation before the opening bell even rang. Shareholders were panicking, and the board of directors had called an emergency meeting.

Ethan sat at the head of the boardroom table, looking exhausted and battered. Beside him sat his father, Arthur Vance, who had flown in early to manage the fallout.
"We issue a corporate statement," Arthur declared firmly to the board members. "We frame this as a personal, domestic matter between Ethan and his ex-fiancée. We emphasize that Ethan remains the visionary CEO of Vance Innovations."
"I wouldn't be so sure about that, Arthur," a sharp voice called out from the doorway.
The boardroom doors swung open, and I walked in, flanked by two senior corporate attorneys and my chief financial officer. I wore a tailored crimson power suit, my hair pulled back into a sleek, flawless ponytail.
Ethan jumped up, his chair scraping loudly against the floor. "Victoria?! What are you doing here? This is a private board meeting!"
"Not anymore," my lead attorney announced, sliding a blue leather binder to the corporate secretary. "As of eight o'clock this morning, Vance Capital—held entirely by Victoria Montgomery—has exercised its acceleration clause on the fifteen million dollar convertible note issued to Vance Innovations last year."
Arthur’s eyes bulged. "You can't accelerate that note! The maturity date isn't for another eighteen months!"
"Under section twelve of the debt agreement," my lawyer explained smoothly, "any material damage to the company's public reputation caused by executive misconduct triggers an immediate right of redemption or equity conversion. Due to Mr. Ethan Vance's viral scandal over the weekend, the company's stock has plunged, constituting a clear material adverse event."
"We don't have fifteen million in cash to redeem the note!" the chief financial officer blurted out in panic.
"We know," I said, walking to the head of the table and resting my hands on the back of Ethan's chair. "Which means, under the default terms, my debt converts into fifty-one percent of the voting common stock of Vance Innovations. Effective five minutes ago, I am the majority shareholder."
The room went dead silent. Board members exchanged terrified glances.
Ethan stared at me in sheer disbelief, his mouth hanging open. "Victoria... you're taking my company?"
"You built this company on my family's money and my strategic connections, Ethan," I said, looking down at him with ruthless superiority. "You thought you were a genius entrepreneur, but you were just a puppet funded by my trust. And now, the puppet's show is over."
I turned to the board. "Motion to remove Ethan Vance from the position of Chief Executive Officer, effective immediately, for gross personal and professional misconduct. Do I have a second?"
Three major board members, eager to save their own investments, instantly raised their hands. "Seconded."
"Motion passed," I announced coldly. "Security is waiting outside to escort Mr. Vance out of the building. He has ten minutes to clear his personal belongings from his office."
Ethan stumbled back, looking at his father for help, but Arthur could only stare at the table in defeated shame.

"You ruined me," Ethan whispered, his voice shaking with hatred.
"No, Ethan," I corrected, leaning down to whisper in his ear. "You ruined yourself when you mistook my love for weakness."
