Chapter 9 - The RebirthOne year after that fateful wedding night, the transformation was complete.

Vance Innovations was no more. Rebranded as Montgomery Technology Solutions, the company had flourished under my leadership, expanding into international markets and securing major defense contracts. Our stock price was at an all-time high, and I had recently been named one of the top corporate executives of the year by Forbes magazine.

The hotel suite where Ethan had betrayed me had been completely renovated, but I never looked back at that night with pain or regret anymore. It was no longer the moment I was broken; it was the moment I was reborn.

I sat on the terrace of my private penthouse suite, sipping a glass of vintage champagne, watching the sunset cast a golden hue over the city skyline. Beside me sat Julian Cross, a brilliant, honorable venture capitalist who had supported my corporate restructuring from day one. He was everything Ethan was not—confident, loyal, deeply respectful, and entirely self-made.

"A penny for your thoughts, Victoria?" Julian asked softly, resting his hand gently over mine.

I smiled, turning to look at him. "I was just thinking about how terrifyingly fast your life can change when you stop accepting less than you deserve."

"You built an empire out of the ashes of a betrayal," Julian said, his eyes filled with genuine admiration. "Most people would have broken. You became unstoppable."

"I realized that revenge isn't just about making your enemies pay," I said, leaning back against the comfortable terrace cushion. "Revenge is building a life so magnificent, so completely fulfilling, that the people who tried to hurt you become nothing more than a distant, meaningless footnote in your story."

Julian raised his champagne glass to mine. "To the future, then."

"To the future," I agreed, clinking my glass against his.

My phone chimed on the table—a Google alert notification about Ethan's court-mandated restitution payments being processed automatically into my charity foundation, which helped victims of domestic financial abuse start new lives.

I didn't even bother opening the notification. I simply swiped it away and looked back out at the sunset.
