Chapter 2 - The Moretti StormThe heavy oak doors of the grand ballroom didn't just open; they were violently thrown wide, slamming against the polished marble walls with a sound that resonated like thunder. The entire room recoiled, fifty guests taking a collective step back as the cold night air rushed into the sweltering space.

Five men strode into the ballroom, flanked by a dozen tall, imposing security operators clad in crisp black suits with ear pieces and tactical gear. The contrast between the glamorous partygoers and these men was instant and terrifying. They moved with a disciplined, predatory grace that commanded absolute silence.

At the head of the group was Dominic Moretti. At thirty-eight, Dominic possessed an aura of quiet, terrifying authority. As the CEO of Blackwood Global, he was used to navigating war zones and high-level international espionage. His dark eyes swept across the ballroom, instantly analyzing the tactical layout, the guests, and finally, me.

Behind him stood my four other brothers: Matteo, broad-shouldered and sharp-eyed; Luca, immaculate in his custom Italian suit with a leather briefcase that held the legal destruction of entire corporations; Gabriel, calm and analytical, scanning the room like a scientist looking at an insect infestation; and Nico, the youngest, whose face was completely devoid of humor, his hand rested casually inside his jacket pocket.

Dominic’s eyes locked onto me. He took in my pale face, my trembling stature, and the dark crimson blood seeping through the back of my white cashmere coat. The temperature in the room plummeted to absolute sub-zero.

"Elena," Dominic’s voice was low, smooth, and dangerously soft. He didn't look at Adrian. He didn't look at the guests. "Who did this to you?"

Before I could answer, Adrian stepped forward, trying to regain his composure. He straightened his tuxedo jacket, puffing out his chest in a desperate display of bravado.

"Listen here, Moretti," Adrian barked, though a subtle tremble in his chin betrayed his fear. "You can't just storm into my estate with armed thugs! This is private property. Elena made a public scene, insulted my family, and spilled wine on an expensive dress. I gave her a light discipline as her husband. It's a family matter."

Matteo let out a low, dark laugh that sounded like grinding glass. "A family matter?"

Luca stepped forward, opening his leather briefcase with two metallic clicks. He didn't look at Adrian; he looked directly at Richard Cole, Adrian’s father.

"Richard Cole," Luca said, pulling out a thick manila folder. "At precisely 8:15 PM tonight, my firm filed a injunction in federal court freezing all corporate and personal assets associated with Cole Construction Industries. As of three minutes ago, your credit lines are revoked, your overseas accounts in the Cayman Islands are seized, and the SEC has issued arrest warrants for tax fraud and grand larceny."

Richard’s face went completely white. "What? That's impossible! You can't do that!"

"I just did," Luca replied calmly. "And that's just the appetizer."

Margaret Cole shrieked, clutching her emerald necklace. "You criminals! Adrian, call the police! Have these thugs thrown out!"

Nico pulled out a slim silver smartphone, tapping the screen once. "Go ahead, call them. In fact, I already called the Chief of Police. He's currently reviewing video footage from forty-eight hours ago showing your son funneling five million dollars of embezzled funds into Miss Vanessa Hart's offshore accounts."

Vanessa gasped, shrinking back behind Adrian, her silver dress looking increasingly pathetic.

Adrian looked around, his mind spinning, realizing the trap was springing shut on every side. "Elena! Tell them to stop! You're my wife! Everything I have belongs to you too! If I fall, you fall!"

I looked at him, feeling absolutely nothing. No sadness, no anger, only an icy clarity.

"I signed a prenuptial agreement, Adrian," I said quietly, stepping toward my brothers. "The one your mother forced me to sign two years ago. The one that stated I get nothing in a divorce... except full immunity from any of your debts and criminal liabilities."

Gabriel stepped up next to me, gently placing a soft blanket over my shoulders to protect my back. "And as her legal team," Gabriel added, "we've already filed for an emergency annulment on the grounds of severe domestic abuse and breach of marital contract."

Dominic walked directly up to Adrian. Adrian tried to hold his ground, but Dominic towered over him, his physical presence suffocating. Dominic reached out, his hand wrapping around Adrian’s neck in a slow, crushing grip, lifting him slightly onto his tiptoes.

"You lay a hand on my sister," Dominic whispered into Adrian’s ear, "and you think you get to keep your empire? You think you get to keep breathing freely?"

"Dominic," I called out softly.

Dominic paused. He looked back at me, his eyes softening instantly.

"Don't break him here," I said, my voice carrying across the silent ballroom. "Let him watch everything he built crumble first."

Dominic smiled—a terrifying, sharp smile. He released Adrian, who collapsed onto the floor, coughing violently and clutching his throat.

"Pack your things, Adrian," Dominic said coldly. "Because by tomorrow morning, you won't even own the clothes on your back."

My brothers surrounded me, forming an impenetrable wall of steel and muscle, and together, we walked out of the Cole estate as the rain began to fall.
