Chapter 8 - Reclaiming the LightSix months after the trial.

The dust had finally settled. The Cole family was a distant, bad dream. Richard Cole had taken a plea deal for five years in low-security prison, while Margaret was living in a modest one-bedroom apartment in the outskirts of the state, reliant on state assistance, completely shunned by the high society she had once dominated. Vanessa Jenkins was serving an eight-year sentence in a state penitentiary.

Meanwhile, the Moretti Children’s Foundation had been completely restructured. With Gabriel managing the finances and me serving as the active Executive Director, we had recovered all the stolen funds—plus millions more seized from the Cole estate assets.

On a bright, sunny Saturday morning, we held the grand opening of the new Moretti Community & Children’s Center in San Jose—a massive, state-of-the-art facility offering free education, medical care, and shelter for underprivileged families.

Hundreds of people attended the opening. Children laughed and ran across the sunny courtyard, playing on the green lawns.

I stood on the glass balcony overlooking the courtyard, holding a glass of fresh lemonade. The sun was warm against my skin.

Dominic walked up beside me, handing me a small leather-bound book.

"What's this?" I asked, looking at him.

"The final deed to the old Cole estate," Dominic said with a faint smile. "We bought it back at auction last week."

I raised an eyebrow. "Why would we want that place?"

Dominic leaned against the balcony railing, looking down at the children playing below. "We demolished the mansion three days ago, Elena. Every single brick, every beam, every piece of marble—turned to dust."

I stared at him, a soft, genuine smile spreading across my face for the first time in months. "You demolished it?"

"We're turning the entire fifty acres into a public park and wildlife sanctuary," Matteo chimed in, joining us on the balcony along with Luca, Gabriel, and Nico. "Named the Elena Moretti Sanctuary."

"You guys are ridiculous," I laughed, wiping a small tear from my eye—a tear of genuine happiness this time.

"We told you years ago, Elena," Luca said, wrapping an arm around my shoulder. "Nobody touches a Moretti and gets away with it. But more importantly, nobody dims your light."
