Chapter 4 - The Fall of Cole ConstructionAt 8:00 AM the following morning, the headquarters of Cole Construction Industries in downtown San Jose was surrounded by news vans, federal agents, and angry investors.

Adrian arrived at his corporate tower in a frantic hurry, wearing the same crumpled clothes from the night before, his dark circles under his eyes revealing he hadn't slept a wink. His father, Richard, was already in the lobby, shouting at a team of FBI agents who were busily taping off the executive elevators.
"This is an outrage!" Richard screamed, waving his arms hysterically. "Do you know who I am? I build the infrastructure of this city! I know the Governor!"
"The Governor isn't answering your calls, Mr. Cole," a tall agent replied coolly, displaying a federal search warrant. "Step aside."
Adrian pushed through the crowd, clutching his phone. "Dad! What's happening? My cards were declined at the gas station! My bank app says my accounts are frozen!"
"It's the Morettis," Richard spat, his voice shaking with genuine terror. "They've invoked emergency freeze orders on all our commercial lines. Every bank we do business with has pulled our credit overnight!"
Suddenly, three sleek black sedans pulled up to the curb outside the glass entrance.
The crowd of journalists turned their cameras toward the street as the doors opened. Luca Moretti stepped out first, adjusting his tie, followed by Gabriel and a team of six senior partners from the city's most formidable legal firm.
And then I stepped out.
I wore a tailored navy-blue pantsuit, my hair pulled back into a sleek, professional bun. Though my back still throbbed beneath the high-collared shirt, my posture was flawless. I walked with my head high, stepping through the sliding glass doors like a queen entering her court.
Adrian’s eyes practically burst out of his skull when he saw me.
"Elena?!" he yelled, pushing past an agent toward me. "What did you do?! Tell these people to leave! You're ruining us!"
Luca stepped between Adrian and me, placing an arm out to bar his approach. "Keep your distance, Mr. Cole. You are currently under a temporary restraining order."
"Restraining order?!" Adrian barked, looking wildly at the reporters filming every second. "She’s my wife! She’s trying to steal my company!"
"Correction," Gabriel said, pulling a tablet from his coat. "She is the primary majority shareholder of Cole Construction Industries as of 7:30 this morning."
Richard choked on his breath. "What?! That's impossible! I own fifty-one percent!"
"You did own fifty-one percent," Gabriel corrected smoothly. "Until you leveraged forty percent of your company shares as collateral with Apex Capital three months ago to secure a loan for your failed hotel project in Las Vegas. What you didn't know is that Apex Capital was bought out by Blackwood Global—Dominic Moretti's holding company—last night."
Richard swayed where he stood, clutching his chest. "No... no..."
"Combined with Elena’s twelve percent stake granted in your prenuptial agreement," Gabriel continued, "my sister now holds fifty-two percent voting control. And her first act as majority shareholder was to freeze all executive salaries and approve full cooperation with the federal investigation into your money laundering."
Adrian stared at me in absolute, helpless horror. The man who had whipped me twelve hours ago, who had treated me like trash under his shoe, was now looking at me as if I held the power of life and death over him.
Because I did.
"Elena... please," Adrian stuttered, taking a trembling step back, his voice cracking. "We can talk about this! We're family! I made a mistake last night, I was drunk, I was stressed—"
"It wasn't a mistake, Adrian," I said, my voice cool and echoing through the marble lobby. "It was your true nature. And this is mine."
I turned to Luca. "Serve the papers."
Luca handed a thick legal packet to Adrian’s numb hands.

"You are hereby served with papers for immediate divorce, asset seizure, and a civil lawsuit for felony assault and battery," Luca declared. "Have a nice day, Mr. Cole."
As we turned to leave, federal agents moved in, slapping handcuffs onto Richard Cole’s wrists as news camera flashes lit up the lobby like lightning.
