Chapter 8 - The Ashes ClearedSix months after the trial, the final remnants of the Vale legacy had been completely erased from New York City.

Vale Logistics was officially dissolved, its assets purchased at auction by Moretti Enterprises and restructured into a fair-trade, employee-owned logistics network managed by Dominic and Leo.

The old Vale estate in Long Island had been completely renovated. The dark, imposing stone walls were knocked down, replaced by sprawling gardens, open glass windows, and vibrant flower beds. I had turned the property into the Moretti Art & Heritage Foundation—a private sanctuary and gallery dedicated to supporting young female artists and providing legal aid to victims of domestic abuse.

It was a warm Saturday afternoon in spring.

The sun shone brightly over the lush green lawns of the estate. A string quartet played gentle, classical music under a white canopy, while seventy guests—real friends, artists, community leaders, and charity directors—mingled on the terrace, drinking champagne and celebrating the foundation's grand opening.

I stood on the marble terrace wearing a gorgeous yellow summer dress, my hair catching the warm afternoon breeze.

Beside me stood Luca, holding a glass of sparkling water, watching the guests laugh and talk.

"You built something beautiful here, Anna," Luca said softly, looking around the gardens. "Our father would have been proud."

I smiled, leaning my head against my brother's arm. "We built it together, Luca. None of this would exist if you five hadn't answered the phone that night."

"We will always answer the phone, Anna," Luca said, his voice deep and warm. "No matter where we are, no matter what we are doing."

Nico walked over, holding a plate stacked high with Italian pastries, followed by Dominic, Matteo, and Leo.

"Hey," Leo laughed, pointing toward the driveway. "You guys won't believe what I just saw on the local news monitor inside."

"What?" Dominic asked.

"Adrian Vale just took a job as a night-shift security guard at a parking garage in Queens," Leo said, shaking his head. "And his mother is living in a small studio apartment in Staten Island, working as a receptionist at a dentist's office."

Nico let out a loud, booming laugh. "A security guard? The guy couldn't even secure his own house!"

"Let him work," I said gently, a quiet, peaceful smile gracing my face. "He wanted people to know his name. Now he gets to wear it on a plastic name tag every night."

We all laughed together, the sound of our joy echoing across the open gardens, washing away every last memory of the darkness that had once filled this place.
