Chapter 8 - The Evidence Unfolds"I... I didn't mean to!" Vivien stammered, her voice shaking violently as her sophisticated facade completely crumbled in front of two hundred elite guests and active news cameras. "It was an accident! The cart caught fire! She’s exaggerating!"

"Accident?" a voice called out from the side doors.
Cook Martha walked out into the ballroom, holding a small digital flash drive in her hand. Beside her was the mansion’s chief IT operator, Marcus.
"Mr. Callaway," Martha said loudly, walking right up to the stage. "When Miss Marsh took over planning the event, she demanded extra security cameras installed around the courtyard to protect her precious decorations. Marcus just retrieved the raw, unedited footage from the courtyard camera recorded at four o'clock this afternoon."
Vivien’s face turned completely ghost-white. "No... Marcus, you traitor!" she screamed.
Nathaniel looked at Marcus. "Put it on the main projection screens. Now."
"Nathaniel, please! Don't do this to me!" Vivien sobbed, grabbing his tuxedo jacket. "Think of my family! Think of our reputation! Think of the press!"
Nathaniel violently shoved her hands off him. "Put it on the screens!" he roared.
The IT director plugged the flash drive into the main AV system. Instantly, the massive high-definition screens hanging above the ballroom stage flickered to life.
The high-resolution video showed the brick courtyard clearly under the bright afternoon sun. On screen, Vivien was seen shouting at her assistant, Chloe. Then, the camera caught every devastating detail: Vivien personally grabbing the bright red gift box containing the silver elephant, dumping it into the flaming barbecue pit, followed by the teddy bear and the rest of the presents.
The footage continued, showing little Lily running toward the fire, Grace desperately tackling her to safety, and then—in crisp, high-definition clarity—Vivien delivering a sharp, violent slap to Grace’s face while pointing threateningly toward the gate.
The entire ballroom erupted into absolute chaos.
"Horrible woman!" a wealthy woman in the front row gasped, covering her mouth in disgust.
"What a monster!" an investor shouted.
The flashbulbs from the news photographers began flashing relentlessly, capturing Vivien’s horrified, disgraced expression as the video replayed on loop above her head.
Vivien covered her face, falling to her knees on the marble floor, sobbing hysterically. "Nathaniel! Please! I was stressed! The pressure of the party got to me! I'm sorry! I'll buy the child a thousand new toys! I'll pay her a million dollars!"
Nathaniel walked slowly over to where Vivien knelt on the floor. He looked down at her with a look of pure, unadulterated disgust.
"You didn't just burn a child's toys, Vivien," Nathaniel said, his voice cold enough to freeze blood. "You revealed the rot inside your soul. You are cruel, arrogant, and utterly worthless."

Nathaniel slowly reached into his pocket, pulled out the magnificent diamond engagement ring he was supposed to give her tonight, and dropped it into the glass of champagne sitting on the nearest table.
"The engagement is off," Nathaniel declared, his voice echoing across the silent room. "Security... escort Miss Marsh off my property immediately. If she ever steps foot on Callaway land again, have her arrested for criminal trespass and assault."
