Chapter 5 - The Fall of Madison(Length: ~1800 words)

Three weeks later.
The grand lobby of the Ritz-Carlton downtown was buzzing with high-society patrons enjoying afternoon tea.
Madison Brooks sat at a small corner table, wearing a dark hat and oversized sunglasses, trying to keep a low profile. Over the past three weeks, her life had unraveled almost as fast as Jason's.
Her high-end interior design firm had lost every single high-society client after her involvement in Jason’s fraud scandal was published in every major newspaper. Her credit cards had been cancelled, her luxury apartment lease was up for termination, and her former socialite friends refused to return her calls.
She sat nervously sipping a glass of cheap tap water, waiting for her meeting.
The heavy glass doors of the hotel opened, and I walked into the lobby. I wore a custom cream-colored pantsuit, my dark hair styled in polished waves, flanked by Daniel Brooks and two corporate security officers.
When Madison saw me, her jaw dropped slightly. She quickly tried to adjust her posture, sitting up straight to project an air of superiority she no longer possessed.
I walked up to her table and sat down in the armchair across from her.
"Iris," Madison said, her voice dripping with artificial confidence. "I didn't expect you to bring an entourage just to talk to me."
"I didn't bring them for protection, Madison," I said smoothly. "I brought them as witnesses."
Daniel set a thick legal folder on the small table between us.
"What is this?" Madison asked, her eyes darting nervously toward her brother. "Daniel, what are you doing? I’m your sister!"
"You're a woman who helped a criminal steal hundreds of thousands of dollars from my client," Daniel replied coldly. "Family loyalty ends where fraud begins, Madison."
I leaned forward, resting my elbows on the small table. "Over the last two years, Madison, Jason transferred nearly seven hundred thousand dollars from Mitchell Medical corporate accounts directly into your personal design firm under the guise of 'office renovations'."
Madison went pale. "That... that was legitimate consulting work! I designed his executive suites!"
"You billed seventy thousand dollars for a single velvet sofa," I noted dryly. "And five hundred thousand for 'abstract art purchasing' that went straight into a private account registered in your name."
"The federal prosecutor has already reviewed those invoices, Madison," Daniel added. "They are officially classifying those transfers as money laundering and corporate kickbacks."
Madison’s artificial confidence vanished completely. She took off her sunglasses, her eyes wide with desperate terror.
"Please..." Madison whimpered, looking at her brother. "Daniel, please don't let them send me to prison! I didn't know Jason was stealing that money from Iris's patents! He told me he was a self-made billionaire! He told me she was crazy!"
"You knew he was married, Madison," I reminded her sharply. "You sat beside him in that courtroom three weeks ago, wearing a white dress, smiling while he told me I would be starving on the streets. You enjoyed my pain because you thought you were winning."
Madison buried her face in her hands, sobbing quietly. "I have nothing left, Iris... my business is ruined. I'm evicted from my apartment next week. Every store downtown has blacklisted me."
"I know," I said calmly. "Which is why I'm offering you a choice."
Madison looked up, wiping her tear-stained cheeks. "A choice?"
"You will sign over every piece of luxury property, every designer handbag, and every dollar remaining in your firm's bank accounts to the Whitmore Foundation for Abuse Survivors," I instructed flatly. "In exchange, my legal team will request that the federal prosecutor reduce your charges to probation with community service."
Madison stared at the settlement papers sitting on the table. She looked at me, then at her brother, realizing she had zero leverage left.
"You really took everything from him, didn't you?" Madison whispered in awe and horror. "And now you're taking everything from me."
"I'm not taking anything that was yours, Madison," I said, standing up from the table. "I'm just taking back what you stole."

Madison picked up the pen with trembling fingers and signed the surrender documents.
I took the signed pages, handed them to Daniel, and walked out of the hotel lobby into the warm afternoon sun, leaving the disgraced mistress sitting alone at her empty table.
