Chapter 10 - A Life Rebuilt

Six months later.

The spring sun warmed the terrace of the newly minted *Reyes-Mercer Children’s Medical Pavilion* in downtown Richmond.

Funded through a fifty-million-dollar joint endowment from Grayson Cole and Ruth Mercer, the state-of-the-art facility provided free specialized cardiac and trauma care to underprivileged families across the state.

Denise Reyes sat in a comfortable wicker chair beneath the blooming cherry blossoms, her cheeks pink with renewed health, watching children play in the therapy garden. Her weekly treatments were completely covered for life.

Kai, wearing a university blazer, jogged up the stone steps carrying his acceptance letter to the University of Virginia’s Pre-Med program—his tuition fully paid through an independent merit scholarship established in Nova’s name.

"Mom! I got the campus housing assignment!" Kai grinned, hugging Denise.

"Of course you did," Denise laughed, kissing his cheek. "You have your sister’s stubborn blood."

Inside the pavilion’s executive offices, Nova stood looking over crisis response blueprints for an upcoming medical relief mission to South America.

She was no longer a maid, nor was she an underground ghost. Nova had been appointed Director of Global Safety & Humanitarian Logistics for the Mercer Foundation, overseeing rescue operations with full legal authority and resources.

Her door clicked open.

Grayson Cole stepped inside, carrying two cups of artisan coffee. He was dressed in a casual charcoal sweater, his smile warm and easy.

"Table Nine requests sparkling water," Grayson teased, setting a coffee cup on her desk.

Nova rolled her eyes, a radiant smile gracing her lips. "If you kick my tray, Mr. Cole, I’ll have to throw you across the room again."

"I seem to recall that you caught me," Grayson said softly, walking around the desk to stand beside her.

He looked down at her wrist. The scar was still there, visible and unhidden, beneath the cuff of her cream silk blouse. It was no longer a symbol of exile. It was a badge of unbreakable courage.

Grayson reached out, his fingers gently tangling with hers.

"The press conference about the new overseas transport fleet starts in twenty minutes," Grayson said, his eyes searching hers with tenderness that had grown deeper with every passing week. "Are you ready to face the cameras?"

Nova looked out the window at her mother laughing with Kai in the sunlight, then turned her gaze up to Grayson—the boy she had saved from the dark, who had grown into the man who built a fortress of love around her family.

"I spent nine years running from who I was, Grayson," Nova said, squeezing his hand. "I’m done hiding."

He smiled, leaning down to press a soft, lingering kiss to her lips. "Then let’s show them what a hero looks like."

Hand in hand, they walked out of the office and into the golden morning light, ready to conquer the world together.
