Chapter 8 - The Queen's ChoiceNaomi stood in the blinding light of the ballroom, her heart hammering wildly against her ribs.

She looked at the dangerous, powerful man kneeling before her—a man feared by the entire underworld, yet a man who had shown her absolute respect, fierce protection, and terrifying devotion. She looked at Isabella, who was smiling at her with tears of pure joy in her eyes.
Naomi realized then that she wasn't trapped. She was being offered a throne beside a man who would burn the world to keep her safe.
She took a soft breath, stepped forward, and extended her right hand.
"Yes, Luca," Naomi whispered, her voice carrying clearly across the room. "I will."
Luca’s face broke into a breathtaking, triumphant smile. He slid the heavy diamond ring onto her finger—a perfect fit. He stood up, grabbed her by the waist, and pulled her into a deep, passionate kiss right there in front of the entire city.
The ballroom erupted into loud applause, mixed with stunned shock from the old-money elites. Matteo Rossi scrambled to his feet and slunk out of the room like a beaten dog, knowing his time in the city was officially numbered.
Two hours later, the convoy returned to the Moretti estate.
Isabella was taken up to her suite by the head nurse, exhausted but happier than she had been in years.
Naomi stood on the private balcony of the master suite, looking out over the sprawling estate grounds. The cool night air brushed against her skin, making the emerald dress rustle softly.
Footsteps sounded behind her. Luca stepped onto the balcony, holding two glasses of champagne. He handed one to her and leaned against the railing beside her.
"Are you angry at me for springing that on you at the gala?" Luca asked softly.
Naomi took a sip of champagne, looking at the massive diamond sparkling on her finger. "A little bit. You didn't exactly give me a chance to think about it."
"If I had given you time to think," Luca chuckled, "your practical mind would have listed twenty reasons why a caregiver shouldn't marry a mafia boss."
Naomi turned to look at him, her brown eyes soft. "And what are your reasons for marrying me, Luca? Is it just to protect me? Or to honor what I did for your mother?"
Luca set his glass down on the stone ledge. He stepped closer, cupping her face gently in his large, warm hands.
"I am marrying you, Naomi," Luca murmured, his dark eyes locking onto hers with terrifying intensity, "because from the moment I saw you standing in that broken music room, holding a candleholder to protect my mother, I realized I could never let another man have you. You are the only weakness I will ever allow myself to have."
Naomi’s breath caught in her throat. She leaned into his touch, realizing that beneath his dangerous exterior lay a loyalty as absolute as her own.

Before she could speak, Marco burst onto the balcony, his face pale.
"Boss!" Marco shouted, his voice laced with urgency. "We have a massive problem. Matteo Rossi didn't go home after the gala. He just launched a full-scale assault on our northern docks—and he brought foreign mercenaries."
