Chapter 10 - A New Legacy

Six months later, the sunlight poured warmly into the Sterling—now Vance—estate. The oppressive, cold atmosphere that had choked the house for decades was entirely gone. The dark curtains had been replaced with sheer, flowing fabric, and the scent of fresh lilies filled the air.

Maya sat at the head of the grand dining table. She wore a simple, elegant dress. Across from her sat Lily, her little sister, looking healthy, vibrant, and laughing as she ate a massive slice of chocolate cake. The best doctors in the world, funded by Maya’s reclaimed fortune, had cured her.

Julian walked into the dining room, holding two cups of coffee, just like he had in Maya’s tiny servant quarters months ago. He set one down in front of her and took a seat beside her.

"The lawyers just called," Julian said, a warm smile spreading across his face. "Eleanor’s plea deal was rejected. She’s looking at twenty-five years to life in a maximum-security facility."

Maya took a slow sip of her coffee, looking out the massive windows at the sprawling gardens. She remembered the girl on her knees, covered in burning soup, terrified and broken. That girl felt like a lifetime ago.

"She has to clean her own cell, I assume?" Maya asked, a playful smirk dancing on her lips.

"Every single day," Julian laughed.

Maya looked at her sister, then at Julian, feeling a profound, overwhelming sense of peace. She had walked through hell, endured the fire, and burned the devil’s empire to the ground to reclaim her family’s legacy. She hadn't just survived the dining room incident; she had conquered the house entirely.

The Vance estate was no longer a place of cruelty. It was a home. And the girl who was told she was nothing, was finally everything she was meant to be.
