Chapter 8 - The Gala of Ruin

The grand ballroom of the Sterling estate was a sea of glittering gowns, tuxedoed billionaires, and popping flashbulbs. Eleanor held court in the center of the room, draped in diamonds, sipping champagne, and projecting an aura of absolute invincibility.

At exactly ten o'clock, she stepped up to the grand podium, tapping her glass with a silver spoon. The room fell dead silent.

"My esteemed guests," Eleanor began, her voice dripping with artificial warmth. "Tonight, we celebrate the future of the Sterling empire. A future built on strength, resilience, and unyielding power."

Before she could finish her sentence, the massive mahogany doors at the back of the ballroom slammed open.

The heavy thud echoed like a gunshot. The crowd turned as one.

Maya walked through the doors. The emerald suit fit her perfectly, radiating an authority that demanded absolute attention. Beside her walked Julian, and flanking them were six federal agents in sharp dark suits.

The crowd gasped, parting like the Red Sea as Maya walked slowly, deliberately down the center aisle. She didn't look at the billionaires or the politicians. Her eyes were locked dead onto Eleanor.

Eleanor’s face contorted in fury. "Security! Get this trash out of my house immediately!"

The security guards moved forward, but the federal agents flashed their badges, stopping them dead in their tracks.

Maya reached the front of the podium. She looked up at Eleanor, who was suddenly trembling, the champagne glass shaking violently in her grip.

"This isn't your house, Eleanor," Maya’s voice was amplified, echoing beautifully through the cavernous room. "And it never was."
