Chapter 7 - The Anonymous Investor

Eleanor Sterling was bleeding money. In her panic to cover her tracks and pay off the right politicians to ignore Julian’s security footage stunt, she had drastically over-leveraged the Sterling empire. Stocks were plummeting. The board of directors was demanding answers.

To save her public image and project power, Eleanor did the only thing she knew how to do: she threw a party.

The annual Sterling Crystal Gala was the social event of the decade. Eleanor invited every senator, CEO, and media mogul in the country. She intended to announce a massive new merger that would secure her wealth forever.

What she didn't know was that a mysterious holding company, 'Vance Enterprises,' had been aggressively buying up Sterling debt for the past month.

Inside a sleek corporate office downtown, Maya stood before a floor-to-ceiling window overlooking the city skyline. She was no longer wearing a maid’s uniform. She was draped in a tailored, emerald-green designer suit, her hair pulled back into a sharp, commanding style. Julian stood beside her, swirling a glass of scotch.

"The Swiss bank confirmed the documents," Julian said, his eyes gleaming with anticipation. "The board of directors has been briefed privately. They know she’s broke, and they know she’s a fraud. The trap is set."

Maya touched the cool glass of the window. For years, she had looked at this skyline from the bottom, scrubbing floors, enduring abuse, swallowing her pride so her sister could survive. Tonight, she was going to tear the sky down.

"She likes to humiliate people in front of an audience," Maya said softly, a dangerous smile touching her lips. "Let’s give her the biggest audience she’s ever had."
